Modern country and rock music sound similar with slight differences because of their singing styles and upbeat tempos. That raspy singing style that usually is associated with rock music, can be found in both country and rock. One difference between the singing styles is in country, the singer usually sings with a ‘southern drawl’ that country music is famous for. Brantley Gilbert, a country singer, is a prime example of this. His song ‘Kick it in the Sticks’ shows how close the two genres can be with the raspy singing, upbeat tempo, and heavy guitar. Of course he does this with that country flavor and southern drawl country music is famous for. This, of course, sets both genres apart because one does not usually hear the southern accent within rock music. Both genres have that upbeat tempo that makes the listener want to get up and ‘rock out’. The way the drums are played varies between the different music styles because of how differently it is set up. Country may have different instruments added to the drum assembly than rock, like the cow bell for example. The cow bell is something that usually is not found in the rock drums accompaniment. Even though they can sound alike with the singing styles and upbeat tempos there are considerable differences, therefore showing how the two genres are generally similar as well as their differences.
