Comcast Corporation is the nation's leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, with 24.1 million cable customers, 12.4 million high-speed Internet customers and 3.5 million voice customers. Comcast is principally involved in the development, management and operation of broadband cable networks and in the delivery of programming content.

Comcast provides a wide variety of consumer products and services:
• Video - Comcast is the nation's largest video provider, offering interactive services packed with the best content on Digital Cable, video on demand and high-definition television.
• Online - Comcast offers the best content, reliable service and faster speeds.
• Voice - Comcast's IP-enabled Digital Voice service offers consumers the quality they expect in a phone service combined with new interactive features for a low price.
• Comcast Business Services - Comcast recently announced that it is providing phone, Internet and video services to business customers across its national footprint.
• Comcast Interactive Media (CIM) - develops and operates Comcast's Internet businesses focused on entertainment, information and communication, including Comcast.net, Ziddio, thePlatform and GameInvasion.net.

Comcast cable brings in 95% of revenues from cable TV, Internet, digital phone services.

Currently, Comcast serves 22.9 million cable customers, 16.7 million high-speed Internet customers, and 8.4 million telephone services customers. In 1963, Ralph J. Roberts founded the company originally branded as American Cable Systems in Tupelo, MS. In 1969 the company was renamed Comcast Corporation. The name blends the words communications and broadcast. From the late 1960s and into the late 1990s, Comcast Corporation had acquired, developed or invested in multiple companies that include QVC, Storer Communications, American Cellular Network Corporation, Metrophone, US Cable Operations, The Golf Channel, and the E.W. Scripps Cable Systems. In 1996 Comcast launched its first high speed Internet option. In 2000 Comcast acquired new customers in multiple states from Adelphia Cable Systems and ATT Broadband. Later in 2002 Comcast and ATT Broadband completed a merger. Comcast was one of the first cable companies to offer high definition and video on demand television services, also in 2002. In 2005 Comcast started to offer digital voice telephone services. Since the initial telephone service was offered, Comcast has grown into the third largest provider of home telephone service. Comcast and GE brokered an agreement that would give a controlling share and management duties of NBC Universal in 2009. NBC Universal is a worldwide entertainment company and has a diverse portfolio that includes multiple television networks, motion picture companies and amusement parks. Comcast Corporation owns the NHL team Philadelphia Flyers and the NBA team Philadelphia 76ers as well as the arena where both play, Wells Fargo Center. While similar to the traditional (analog) dialup modems, a cable modem is significantly more powerful, capable of delivering data approximately 500 times faster. During the early to mid - 1990s, the two-way interactive communication capability of the existing cable network infrastructure was realized which would imply a much greater bandwidth for accessing the Internet. This realization resulted in several field trials being conducted in various areas of United States and western European countries. As a result of these field trials, several types of cable modems were developed. For millions of people, television brings news, entertainment and educational programs into their homes. Many people get their TV signal from cable television, because cable TV provides a clearer picture and more channels. Many people who have cable TV can now get a high-speed connection to the Internet from their cable provider. Cable modems compete with technologies like Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSL).Through the use of a cable modem you can have a broadband Internet connection that is designed to operate over cable TV lines. The coaxial cable used by cable TV provides much greater bandwidth than telephone lines, a cable modem can be used to achieve extremely fast access to the Web. This, combined with the fact that millions of homes are already wired for cable TV, has made cable Internet service something cable TV companies have really jumped onboard with. Traditional dial-up modems provide online access through the public telephone network. A cable modem, on the other hand, gives users high-speed Internet access through a cable TV network.
