Humor has been used for many generations with an unclear origin. Over time as society progresses, the kind of humor produced adjusts to what fits the culture. One thing doesn’t change however, and that is the purpose of humor which is to provide laughter and amusement for whoever is aware of the topic. In this day and age, we live in a time of humor that is much different than the humor that took place a hundred, or even fifty years ago. Back in 2004, Alain de Botton argued in his nonfiction book Status Anxiety, how humor can be used to not only entertain but it also allows messages regarding society to be safely expressed without the danger that could occur if stated directly. For this reason, Botton believes they play a key role in society.…

According to actual definition, humor is defined by mood and state of mind. This is plausible because humor isn’t understandable unless you are conscious about the relevance. On that same note, a movie pertaining to humor needs to be careful about what it portrays. If you stick with one type of humor; there is the off-chance of losing appeal and comedic value for the vast majority. The humor induced film, DeadPool, is relatively a good comedy; but has some obvious drawbacks by only attracting those who like crude humor. Making this a comedy that only a few will enjoy.…

This approach may not be completely effective though. For comedy to be understood, the person watching would have to find something the comedian is saying familiar to them. If the audience does not understand at all, then it may not be funny and could come across worse than the comedian had hoped. Comedy that has to deal with the topic of race has changed very significantly throughout the years. Years ago the comedy may have hit slightly on the sensitive topics of race. But as time has…

In our daily life, we all live with humor. Humor is a very essential part of our life. Nevertheless everyone doesn’t perceive humor in the same way. Man and woman have different views toward humor. That’s why some people say that humor has a connection with gender. In his article Christopher Hitchens has mentioned various reasons for women not being as funny as men. I believe Hitchers has captured most of the fundamental truths about humor and gender. Men are funnier than women because they want to be superior with no regard of the consequences, unlike women who tend to be fair and analyze the consequences of a joke before laughing at it.…

    Racial Comedy Analysis

Joking about minorities isn’t as acceptable when it comes from a white person, as they haven’t experienced what they are talking about. By focusing less on jokes that stereotype other people and more on jokes they can directly relate to, blacks form a sort of in-group familiarity. Lastly, whites believe that race should not matter at all, and that the main importance of racial comedy is its ability to facilitate conversation and break down racial barriers. While blacks agree that ethnic comedy is important, they do not think that it is particularly about breaking down barriers; its more about exposing them. In their eyes, comedy should serve as a positive source of education, illustrating the hardships of minorities, and helping to take a role in “black mobilization in equality”. Overall, while comedy may be a pleasant way to relieve a little tension, it has not yet reached a level where it can significantly improve social interaction. With more sociological research, the authors hope racial unity in comedic settings will not be so shallow and…
