sarcasm to talk to anyone I want to. Comedy enables me to be outside of the social ladder and place myself wherever I want to be whenever I want to. Failure in sports and academics can be catastrophic, but a comedic mishap, such as a slightly offensive joke, is easily recovered and learned from. Comedy helps my social exploits because it can be used to cheer someone up or to keep a conversation alive.
I have learned that small talk is a very difficult region to master, but the only way I learned to master it is with the magic of jokes. Personally, the easiest way to break the ice and make others comfortable is to throw funny and informal side notes. The only way to make close friends is to build a relationship with that person. I make others laugh to initiate friendships in the first place.
The largest reason I choose to make others laugh is because of the amazing feeling of accomplishment I receive. I do not care for a championship ring or a shiny medal; my rewards are smiles and uncontrollable bouts of laughter from others. Happiness is my currency, and I am growing more and more greedy for it. In fact, my daily goal is to make someone smile. This is why I want to be defined by my ability to make others temporarily forget any negativity in their lives through the beautiful, stress-relieving process we call
laughter.
