Letter:
Dear Patrick,
I hope this letter reaches you well and in time. It’s Robert writing to like I promised when I reached the great lands of the United States of America. Patrick I’ll tell you one thing and that would be how difficult the ride was to the great land. There was a lady that got sick on the boat and in order to keep us all safe from her the captain had to let her off in the middle of the sea! It was very unexpected but I stayed tough with my lucky Irish blood and made it here. I do miss Ireland very much and wish I could be back there but I know if I want to get rich I have to push myself.
How has it been at home so far Patrick? I know my family is happy that we were able to escape from the famine. I hope that the potatoes start to grow because I would love to hear good news from you very soon. Though Patrick if you and your family do decide to move you should beware that my trip wasn't that easy like I explained before of the the sickness but that’s not the only thing that may haunt your trip. The countless hours of sitting and looking at the dirty floors can haunt your mind and may lead to going insane. But I was so happy when we finally arrived it was the greatest sight I have ever seen! There were so many people I couldn’t believe my eyes how much immigrants like me were out there. When I arrived I was questioned on my family and my beliefs. Thankfully the official let me through to the next point in which I got checked on by a doctor. As you know my Irish blood runs through me I guess because I seem never to get sick so I finally joined my family in the streets of New York where my dreams were being made.
Life right now in America is tough but I enjoy every minute of it because I know I am lucky to working and getting allowed to be in such a great country. Everyday I wake up and start my day by walking to the factory. The factory is a 15 minute walk from the Irish community we settled in. Our house isn’t that great but it will do because we know that as we strive for more great opportunities will come. Though a few things that don’t help me as I struggle is that I have found out that all of us immigrants get paid less for the jobs that we do. I already work the most dangerous part of the factory and the most hours but I seem to get paid the least just because I’m an immigrant. Patrick I hope all is good and that you write back to me as soon as you get this! Please be safe and tell your family I say hello. I hope you move here to America so that I can see you again.
Sincerely,
Robert

In the article "Coming and Going: Round Trip to America," by Mark Wyman, his goal and his main arguments for the article were to explain how immigration, emigration, and migration has destroyed old peasant villages. He is also trying to argue that the modern world has struggles hard to maintain the comforting thought of a peasant culture that is rooted to the soil. The author achieved his goal in this article because he gave lots of examples of how immigration, migration and emigration and how they changed a lot of the villages and they towns in which they were migrating, emigrating, or immigrating to would overflow because there are so many. For example, in the article it states that "...people were emigrating from the village of Miejsce, and so there was nothing startling in the total 121 persons going to America in the ten years since the first traveler set out across the Atlantic." (pg. 79 paragraph 1) Another good example of how those who immigrated, migrated, and emigrated changed villages would be, "European peasant villages that once seemed impenetrable in their backwardness, their isolation, now boasted residents who could describe the wonders of the New World-skyscrapers, elevated trains, and deep tunnels. (pg. 80 paragraph 4) In this article the authors goal was to tell his view of how migrants, immigrants, and emigrants changed the old villages and bombarded it or the left the old village and went to a new one.…

I must close my journal entry now, mother said I need to go to bed so that we can wake up at dawn to make our way to the port and board the ship. Our life in Ireland has been cruel and emigrating to America is not going to be a joyful event, but my family and I know that Ireland will never be the same since The Great Hunger and our potato crop failure, due to potato blight. There once were nearly three million people in Ireland, we have lost nearly one million to starvation and disease and at least one million have emigrated. It is time to see if we can survive our trip to America and make a better life for what is left of our…

For the most part I have lead an admittedly blessed life. From traveling through Europe and walking down the streets of Paris inhaling the culture like it was freshly made bread to volunteering at food banks down the Californian coast getting to see the impact my actions could have on the well-being and lives of others. Coming from the small-town life in Ellensburg, WA, I am very fortunate to have been able to branch out and see the world more than the unending view of pastures and windmills that Ellensburg provides. This isn't to say that I haven't appreciated my time here, in Ellensburg, and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, the friendly faces, the unbelievably delicious asian cuisine restaurants, and the inbred knowledge that it'll only take five minutes to get to wherever you need to be.…

Letter to my Father is a letter that is set in Cork, during the winter months of 1995, which was five years after Eamon Patrick Keane died (the father). This account was written as a way of remembering his father and how life was like with him before he died. The tone in which it is written conveys a sense of resentment and disapproval of the fathers lifestyle and this is clearly shown through various aspects which are touched upon throughout the passage. The passage uses several literary techniques such as metaphors, alliteration and short effective sentences in order to convey things such as the authors’ feelings towards his father.…

Today was a special day where my family and I was packing our bags to go to America or at least I hope. My heart was racing and my mind couldn't keep up with all the things going on inside my mind. I can't wait to get to America. I'm just thinking about all the things I could be able to do. We had one last breakfast together and it was the best meal that I had all year. The journey will be hard without her, but me and my brother, Connor, would be traveling together. Connor is a little bit younger than me though so I would have to look out for him. “Crossing Border” is a documentary about four Moroccan and four American university students traveling together through Morocco and, in the process of discovering “the other,” they end up discovering themselves as well. Watching this documentary open my mind of the people around me and how people do judge other people based on their beliefs and background without even knowing who they are, and to be honest I used to be one those people as well. In the beginning of the documentary, the American students were talking about the news and how it made them think at first that Muslims were terrorists and irrational and are always full of rage. When I heard that part I was not surprised especially watching the news after September 11. While on the other side, the Muslim students describe the Americas as rude and selfish and only care about themselves, which I never really thought about what Muslims really think about America, but none of the sides actually experience what it feels like to in the other person position. Before watching this movie, I never really imagined how it feels like to be a Muslim not living in the United States and how they are also affected as well as Muslim living in America. I thought that was a great idea bring people from different backgrounds and culture together and talk to each other about the stereotypes they hear. My youth group did a similar project so I can relate to how they felt.…

I was alone. I sat on the concrete table in the schoolyard of the local school in Annestown. My parents and I had finally settled in Annestown, Ireland. I was an only child, and had no friends in this town, which made me very lonely. Let me start from the beginning. I am Caitlin Conchubair, which is my maiden name. Most people know me as Caitlin O’Connor, though. Early last year, my parents and I had ancestral DNA tests done to find out where we were from. Once we got them back, we discovered that we were Irish royalty, or descendants of royalty. This made me the 12th generation of Irish royalty since the reign of the last official king of Ireland. Crazy, right? Well, about 3 months passed and my parents decided to move on May 18 of 2010…
