Carl Byoir – Got his start working on the creel committee during WWI. Uses fundraising events for good causes and uses them towards ordinary people and to improve client image. Known for the March of Dimes and FDR’s Birthday Balls.
Mark Hanna – In the election of 1896, he was in charge of McKinleys campaign. He used pamphlets posters and advertising. Sparked the debates and editorials in newspapers.
William McKinley – Created the modern campaign way.
William Henry Harrison – in 1840 he was given the image of a hillbilly redneck which led to the log cabin campaign, people said he could stay in his log cabin and drink cider and he embraced his image.
Edward Murrow – worked for CBS with shows such as “harvest of shame” and “see it now” which featured a special Milo Radulovich. Recruited walter conkrite to CBS. His programs shows the darker side of American life. Murrow and McCarthy programs establish credibility of TV News.
Theodore Roosevelt – Allowed off the record morning interviews to allow establish good communication with the media. He allowed them to interview him during his morning shave and daily routines.
Herbert Hoover – Headed all radio conferences. Establishes the Whitehouse office of press secretary. Analyzed public opinion by a collection of news editorials. Uses analysis to gauge public reaction to events.
Lyndon B. Johnson – appointed the kerner commission to report on urban riots of mid-1960’s. kerner commission criticized media for failure to understand race issue and absence of African Americans in media history.
Emmett Till – Chicago teen murdered in Mississippi for looking at a white women. His body was found in the river and his uncle saw 3 white men kidnap him. His mother lets out the picture of his tortured body and his trial attracts journalists from the North and South.
Franklin D. Roosevelt – Famous for his fireside chats. He creates a bond between the president and the people. Shapes
