ABC, Inc. did not provide enough supervision and guidance for their new campus recruiter, Carl Robins, who has only been in his position for six months. Monica Carrolls, as the operations supervisor, should have followed up on her conversation with Carl instead of assuming that everything was ready for the orientation training. As a new recruiter, Carl should have started preparing earlier for the orientation training to make sure everything could be completed in time and ask for help if he needed it. Because of lack of planning and scheduling, the training must be postponed until July when the training room will be available.

Background

ABC, Inc. had a new campus recruiter, Carl Robins, with only six months on the job. His

The first problem, the training room is already booked for June 15. The easiest solution for this problem would probably be to move the training date to the first week in July when the training room would be available. Another solution would be to rent a training room at another facility to accommodate the training needs for June 15.

Carl's second problem was forgetting to set up appointments for the new trainees to be tested for drugs. To resolve this problem, he could contact the clinic and see if he could schedule all the trainees to be tested within the next week. Then he would need to call all the new trainees and have them come in and review their files, making corrections to the applications and bringing in their transcripts.

Another problem would be the lack of a complete orientation training manuals. This is something the company should never be without. A complete manual would have to be sent to the printers, whether in house or out sourced, the manual would have to be completed before the training on the June 15.

Depending on how long this orientation is going to last and if there are other training rooms available in the facility, Carl can resolve this issue fairly easy. If the orientation takes one day and there is no other training rooms available, Carl could ask Joe if he can use the training room for that day. It’s not a guarantee that Joe is going to agree and is Joe really going to want to change skip a day of the training seminar because of someone else’s mistake. If there are no other training rooms available or Joe does not agree, Carl can explain the situation to Monica Carrolls and the company supervisors, and ask if it is possible they can rent a conference room from a local venue. If the company supervisors frown upon that idea because it is going to cost the company extra money they might not agree with that idea. Carl can also see if he can have the trainees come in on Saturday, sure the new trainees will not complain if they are really interested on getting this job. If all does not work out it seems like the orientation is going to be moved to the first week of July. But this can look very bad on Carl. With only six months on the job it is possible that he can lose his job. It also looks bad on the company because the new trainees are expecting to start working for Miss Carrolls in the beginning of July and could be possibility for these trainees to be employed somewhere…

Some of the key problems are that the new hires are not prepared for their start date of June 15th. It is the responsibility of the recruiter that the new hires are completely ready for their start date and have everything they need in order to be successful in the company. The recruiter is responsible for the two main problems. The fact that Carl is a new employee himself could rationalize the fact that none of the new hires are ready for their orientation start date.…

Preparing new hires for a new job, you definitely have to have everything in order and it starts with having all paper work in order. When Carl got his office and pulled out the new trainee files, he came across that some of the new trainee’s applications were not completed and their transcripts were not on file. It could be argued that the way in which a CV communicates the suitability of a job candidate is through the effective use of Impression Management. IM refers to the tactics people use in order to elicit a desired impression from an audience, these tactics can be said to be either conscious or unconscious (Schlenker, 1980, p.6). As part of the Professional Development module, this assignment will be focused on the analysis and evaluation of two fictitious and competing CV 's and their accompanying cover letters.
