I choose this quote because there are many things in this day and age that it can apply to. Right now there is a lot of controversy between the government, the police and other major topics. Drug dealers pay off law enforcement to look the other …show more content…
way. Also Government officials will give media a sum of money to shut them up and keep a story from publishing or airing. Believe it or not, the government actually warps or limits many things we see. Although we are not like other countries- who are restricting knowledge and information about the outside world- the citizens of the world usually don't know the full story. My extended family accepted money from the Police after an unnecessary and innocent death, this was money of their sorrow and also so they didn’t talk bad about law enforcement. I know people who are supposed to be good often turn out to be exactly what you're afraid of.
For example it's like my math class, I think that I understand the concept being taught to me, get 100% on all the homeworks and when the time for test comes I get a 48%.
Obviously I can't relate to the situation that Lakshmi was in but I do understand how one second you think everything's going great, and then the next minute you have no idea what happened. I had a different quote, but then I read this book and it has become my favorite quote. This made me kind of put down my book and think about and how no matter how good the people around us are, there is always going to be someone corrupt. No matter where you live or how severe the horribleness of humanity really is. I'd like to think that if given the chance, the police officer would not look the other way, maybe customers would show up, knowing they were staring into they eyes of a child, on who’s probably here against her will, and leave. I’d like to think that in a world of so much good there is little evil. But I know it is the other way around. Hopefully when given the chance, we will choose the right
thing.
