Priority NANDA: Deficit Knowledge r/t sore throat and nasal congestion aeb parents requesting ABX for treatment. (note: I am kind of unsure of this dx or if I did the r/t and aeb for it right if someone has insight and could help explain it better on how to word it)
Outcome is to educate the parents /parent on the signs and symptoms of a cold and the medication that can be used to treat a common cold, versus the use of antibiotics. Studies have shown that there is an overuse of Antibiotics for unnecessary treatments, and antibiotic resistance.

What we can educate the parents of young children on is prevention, such as handwashing, due to coughing, blowing the nose, and sneezing are leading issues related to the common cold. Education on nasal decongestants, OTC medication if its allowed per PCP such as Tylenol, or Cold medication for their symptoms. These are all key things to address with the nurse and doctor, due to many parents also over using Tylenol or medication to quickly cure the symptoms.
