Common and Less Common Psychological Disorders
Many people often confuse normal and abnormal psychology because a lot of people know only about the abnormal behaviors. Everyone has psychology whether it is normal or abnormal. The abnormal form of psychology consists of disturbances, disorders, and destructive behaviors. There are several common psychological disorders, much more than the less common. One of the top common mental illnesses is Anxiety Disorders. These disorders are those that individuals respond to objects, surroundings, or situations with fear dread. There are many symptoms to this disorder, and many of them are not easy to recognize. People with this disorder fail to conform to social norms sometimes doing things to get them arrested (Psych central, 2013). They tend to be deceitful, impulsive, irresponsible, and have a lack of remorse for anything that they do. These patients are irritable and aggressive and you can tell this particular symptom because of all the fights and altercations the patient would have in their history (Psych central, 2013). This disorder is more prevalent in men than in women, with men having a three percent chance and women having a one percent chance.
As for what causes antisocial personality disorder, no one knows for sure. They think it can be a mix of three things: biological, genetic, and social factors. The treatment covers the psychosocial aspects of treatment. “The theory behind the approach is that some people are prone to react in a more intense and out-of-the-ordinary manner toward certain emotional situations, primarily those found in romantic, family and friend relationships” (Overview, 2013). This theory suggests that some people arousal levels can go up quicker than what they normally would, then attain a greater level of emotional stimulation, yet still take quite a bit of time to come back down. DBT is very support- oriented, it’s cognitive based, and it’s collaborative which means that it requires a lot of attention between the patient and the provider (Overview,
