A Community Assessment of Rose City Park, NE Portland
According to Wilkinson and Treas (2011) Community health nurses function as client advocates, educators, collaborators, counselors, and case managers. In order to perform these roles with full relevancy and functionality, it is important for the nurse to be familiar with the community at hand. Community assessments are thus important to conduct. This school was also a brick building occupying a full city block. Similar to Roseway Heights Elementary, the school grounds, including the play area, were mostly covered with pavement and enclosed with a chain-linked fence. A small statue of a woman with loose garb was set to the side of the entrance. There were a few designated crosswalks located on the front two corners of the school grounds. Overall the school was clean in appearance.
Religion
There were several churches present in the area that were of different denominations. Southwest Asian Vicariate was the largest religious establishment in the neighborhood that comprised almost three city blocks. The fence that was seen at an entrance was entirely wood and appeared to be influenced by Asian architecture. Other churches noticed were Rose City Park United Methodist, Friendship Masonic Church, and Lighthouse Mission Church. Establishing goals and arranging interventions are needed to promote and preserve the health of individuals, aggregates, and communities, as stated in Wilkinson and Treas (2011). The results of Rose City Park neighborhood will be elaborated and analyzed in individual Community Analysis’.
