Hospitals depend on qualified personnel to be employed. CHS mainly has rural facilities which could affect the amount of qualified personnel available for employment. If there are not enough in the community, they will have to invest in travel personnel or moving personnel in to the community. Both of these options will cost the company more than the normal employee. Also, the economy will always be a factor in the healthcare industry. If the economy is good, there are more elective surgeries which will increase the hospital’s income. In contrast, in a bad economy, people are less likely to have surgeries which they could put off to a later date. They are one of the largest healthcare industries in the country so they have buying power. They have name recognition with consumers and vendors. They also have a strong experienced board making decisions about the company’s future. Their facilities have a record of having good quality ratings. These are all important strengths CHS should use to be successful.
Weaknesses-Threats:
CHS stock is at an all time low. With a history of having stock in the $20-$30 range, this is a tragic turn for the company. The amount of debt the company has is a deterrent for investors. In addition, the amount of lawsuits that have been filed against the company is also a worrisome factor for investors. Without investors, the company will not be able to survive.
Weaknesses-Opportunities:
The company has opportunity in new service lines and in the communities. They need to continue to look for service lines that are profitable and to be a positive influence in the communities that they exist. They can provide not only jobs within the facilities, but jobs through new construction, and the purchasing of local supplies and services within the community.
