For Activity A, we first tested enzyme activity. First, we used an H2O2 syringe to transfer 10 mL of H2O2 into an unlabeled 60-mL cup. Then, we used a transfer pipet to add one mL of catalase solution into the unlabeled 60-mL cup that we put H2O2 in. After that, we observed the solution for one minute. Then we tested the effect of boiling on enzyme activity. First we used a transfer pipet to transfer 4 mL of catalase into a test tube. After that, we placed the test tube filled with catalase in a boiling water bath for five minutes. While we were waiting, we rinsed the unlabeled cup we used earlier when we tested enzyme activity. Then we used a H2O2 syringe to transfer 10 mL of H2O2 into the rinsed unlabeled cup. After five minutes, we transferred 1 mL of the boiling catalase into the unlabeled cup with H2O2 in it with an unused transfer pipet and observed the results. After testing the effect of boiling on enzyme activity, we tested for catalase in living tissue. First, we rinsed the unlabeled 60 mL cup we used earlier. Then, we used a scalpel to cut a small piece of liver. After that, we macerated the piece of liver with a glass rod. When the liver was macerated enough, we put it in a cup with 10 mL of H2O2, which was transferred into the cup with a H2O2 syringe. Lastly, we observed the cup.…

The idea of a contact zone and a community is distinct from one another, yet they can both be used to define the characteristics of the same group. Mary Louise Pratt believes that communities are often seen as the more dominant viewpoint to the general public but she also argues that we need to develop ways to understand the differences of culture and grasp the idea of transculturation through the contact zone. A single group should always be viewed from both community and contact zone points of view to gain greater perspective and understanding.…

This participatory action-research followed the reflection-input-action-reflection process in allowing barangays to evolve their own information system. Benchmark study, secondary data use, key informants interview and observations were the key data gathering techniques. Data analysis was basically descriptive. This project was implemented in nine barangays of Munoz, Nueva Ecija. Some 83 respondents composed of barangay captains, barangay councilmen, barangay secretaries, barangay treasurers and SK chairmen were interviewed to have a benchmark information regarding their knowledge of and perception on their barangay hall as information center. Majority of the respondents perceived their barangay hall as very useful in terms of serving as venue for meetings and as source of vital information about the barangay and its people. However, they felt that the information are inadequate as basis for planning and in responding to information requests from local government offices. There is still a need to improve its surroundings and provide facilities like chairs, tables, cabinets and enrich the information available in the place. The project also described and documented the Barangay Information System (BIS) implementation process of the nine barangays. It covered the activities that the barangays did in implementing their BIS. There were commonalities among the barangays in following a basic implementation process from orientation meeting in the barangay to data storage and updating. However, there were also observed peculiarities on data gathering techniques and logistics wherein some barangay officials voluntarily used their own money for supplies and materials and even provided snacks for BIS team members during data gathering, data posting/tabulation and data presentation so the activities will not be delayed. The local officials educational attainment and training were the factors that contributed to early completion of BIS activities in some barangays while the…

Our project was implemented at Brgy 601 Zone 59 District VI, a small community V. Mapa Ext. Sta. Mesa, in the city of Manila. Our group opts to choose this barangay because of its nearness and at the same time, our group leader’s residence is located there. The place was a typical urban community with single story houses, children playing in the streets, bystanders in some benches, single small scale businesses like convenience stores and street carts as among the common things that you could see in a barangay. There are also tall condominiums and small shops and restaturants nearby. High rise infrastructures are observable nearby since the place was situated near some commercialized districts and downtowns of Manila. The barangay seems not that populated and the areas are not so dilapidated like the other barangays. Of course, there still some eye sores the place like the informal settlers who might get damaged seriously if ever calamity like fire or earthquake comes because of their congested situation, and those seem to be like knotted pasta strips of electrical/cable wiring on every posts that could be very dangerous to the neighborhood. Their barangay hall is newly renovated, as we went there for informing them about our said visit and there we are accommodated and assisted warmly by a barangay official and he toured us in some points of the community.…
