The group consisted of families residing in the area and a handful of Marymount students. There were many families with children that were elementary school aged. As is typical with younger children many were restless and had a hard time actually paying attention to the liturgy. The rest of the assembly also seemed to be restless, and frankly bored. As a whole, this assembly of people failed to make Christ present. This assembly did not make Christ present because during the Mass the atmosphere and attitudes of the people in attendance. It seemed as if the people were there for the routine and were uninspired by the liturgy. Granted, children will have trouble focusing but the older adults and university students have to create an environment in which the presence of Christ is felt. For many Church begins to feel as if it is a routine thing that many of us participate on once a week. In contrast, during the sporting event that I attended, from the very beginning it was clear that everyone was lively and excited. The uninspiring attitudes of the people assembled may attributed to the fact that for some Church has become a boring ritual confined to Sunday morning , while sporting events are seen as prime entertainment for many especially in America. Excitement for Christ needs to start on an individual level. If each person is accountable for making Christ present in their lives, then they will be an encouragement to their
