Community Policing

What is community policing? Community policing is a working partnership with a community that helps make the environment a better place to live in. This partnership with the community has goals such as reducing neighborhood crime, helping to reduce fear of crime and enhancing the quality of life in the community. And it does so with the help of police, local government and community members. With the collaboration between the police and the community, community policing should identify problems of crime and disorder and then involve the community to find solutions. By doing so there should be less serious crimes in the community and a better atmosphere. All in all, community policing is basically a relationship between the police and the community to create a better atmosphere so there is less crime rates.
As citizens of the United States we are obligated in assisting the citizens that are employed by the government to help them in any given situation no matter what. There is a famous sang that says “the police are the community and the community are the police.” What does this mean? This means that the police sworn into to protecting its community and the people of the community, but the community has a whole have to step up an help the police perform their jobs more significant. According to an online website “The police department strives to actively involve citizens in its operations, through a variety of means. Volunteers are widely used, whether college interns or retired seniors. Citizen patrols and crime prevention initiatives are welcomed and encouraged. Area commanders meet often with members of the public to solicit input and feedback.” I personally always try in helping out my community and helping out the law enforcement to help protect and do what is right. I will explain a couple of things on what a community or person can do in community policing.
