Community Service
Community service has been normally on your own will, but lately school have added community service hours to their curriculum. With adding another required course to the schools it would help them learn lessons for later in life. The job for schools is not just to teach the core classes, but also life lessons that will help them when their out of school. Then there are kids that have to help support their families and work after school and therefore its unfair to add another requirement to their high school curriculum. York School Board should require students to perform community service for 60 hours throughout high school because by doing so it can provide valuable life lessons for students as well as a valuable for members of the community. Asking students to perform community service hours can teach them lessons they can build on throughout life and will also improve teens image in the community. By requiring kids to do a minimum of 60 hours of community service throughout their four years at the high school level they will learn many life lessons. It will teach students lessons like responsibility, leadership, gratitude, respect and empowerment. Those are just a few of many life lessons students can learn from having to do community service. Once students have done community service most of them would probably tell you they learned something new that they will carry with them throughout their life. Teens now of days are mostly known as either lazy or not respectful, by doing community service the older generation will have a different view on the upcoming generation. They will see them as hard working, responsible, and respectful people and will change their mind about what they think of the upcoming generations. By requiring students to have community service hours to graduate it will help them apply to earn scholarships. In a lot of scholarships it will ask you something like “what have you done out of school to give back to your community?”. Therefore, with having a requirement by your school to do community service you can apply for a lot more scholarships. Scholarship committees don’t just look at your grades they want to give their money to a students that have one good grade but a close second they are a good person by doing community service it will show that you are responsible and a well rounded person. If every student in high school was required to do community service it would help with becoming a well bonded community. By giving back to your community it will help bring people together and will make the community look good. It doesn’t matter how much you do just by doing a little community service you are making a positive difference in your community by helping others out. Plus the people you help out during the community service you do, you will become closer to them and start to make friendships. Then they will more likely be willing you help you out in your life if you are helping them out. Then if every students that went through high school had to do community service in long terms the community would be good looking and attract people to visit. It will also help families in your community that aren’t very financially sound if you give some time and help them.
York School Board should require students to perform community service for 60 hours throughout high school because by doing so it can provide valuable life lessons for students as well as a valuable for members of the community. With all the positives this can have on improving your community, making your students better people, and helping them earn scholarships requiring students to do community service should be thought about for high schools.

If the opportunity to make some difference in the community presents itself, would you not have the desire to? Particularly when it concerns the wellbeing of not only adolescents, but all citizens in the community. Even if you do not have kids, all of us can relate because we were all kids once. The idea that kids under the age of eighteen ought to be free to roam the streets after 10 p.m. is faulty as it fails to protect everyone. A curfew for adolescents will bring them valuable boundaries which can transfer into other areas of their lives. Some may have no boundaries or discipline at home and at least they will learn to respect this…

This is especially important in the moral and intellectual development of youth. Education is inextricably linked to moral development, as this provides for misconduct that may be related to a child or adolescent. On the other hand, institutional support can be provided through state rehabilitation centers to implement a regulation based standards of conduct, control of their actions, and motivation. With some students not being good test-takers, the productivity of a student should be able to be determined by using that student’s GPA. Other methods of measuring academic success, for students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia or dysgraphia, can be used to aid these students as well. Community involvement can be whatever the school board deems necessary when dealing with the needs of its citizens. This could be anything from charity drives to helping feed the…

In recent years, youth participation in volunteerism has fluctuated drastically, resulting in a rising amount of high schools requiring students to complete a certain amount of service hours upon graduation. Despite the push for community service, Maryland remains the only state that has officially adopted service learning as a requirement for graduation. With several other states closely behind Maryland, Kentuckians are not experiencing any major amendments to high school graduation requirements.…

Service Learning- Currently, the policy for service learning is this: freshman year, 10 hours, sophomore year, 10 hours, junior year, 20 hours, and senior year, 20 years. This puts more pressure on the seniors during their final year to do so many more things. They already have harder classes, and they would love to be able to take a small break. The service learning breakdown should now read: 10, 20, 20, and 10 hours individually. This would give all of our seniors more time to work on scholarship applications, college applications, and other important schoolwork that needs to be done. As seniors, we understand the struggle of trying to get all of twenty hours in this year, and it is tough to juggle this with everything else that is going…

One possible positive effect is community service could help the economy. Every day our community is vandalized by inconsiderate people. Whether it is tagging or littering, someone is being paid to clean this mess up. Students from UCR, for example, are going into neighborhoods and cleaning up. This is at no cost also, so now our economy is able to use the money in other areas such as helping schools and helping the mental health. Another example of students helping our economy is by volunteering even five hours of their time a day to kids that are in elementary school; this will increase opportunities for youth to learn about sports, shopping, and guidance. This type of reaching out to our youths will prevent the outcome of kids going to jail and living in the system, which will help the economy’s overcrowded jail system. These are just two examples of how community service will help our economy.…
