Community Service Journal Sample
Community Service Journal For my community service, I made mayday baskets for the residents at the Waterford apartments in Country Manor with my grandma. So in order to make the mayday baskets, we need to plan what we were going to do beforehand. So a few weeks before mayday me, my mom, and grandma decided what kind of mayday basket we were going to make. Then when we decided on that we went shopping to get the items we needed in order to make the baskets. Then the Sunday before mayday we went to my grandma’s house and made them. We made them by folding paper into a cone shape, then we punched two holes in the cone to make a handle by using ribbon. Then for our final steps we filled them up with candy, and wrote happy mayday on the cone. …show more content…
During those hours I accomplished so much with the help of my mom and grandma. We prepared, made, and delivered the may day baskets. My contribution to the project was to make the cone shaped baskets, write happy mayday on them and also to fill them up with candy. While I did that my mom and grandma punched the holes and made the ribbon handles. A few days after we had delivered the mayday baskets we received many different compliments. One lady told us that it reminded her of the olden days when she use to make them as a kid. Also many people thanked us, and said that it was a very nice thing to do. Then another lady told us that it brightened her day. After we had received these compliments it made us feel so much better because we had made their days. I am so glad that I got to do this with my grandma because I know that it just makes her so much more happier. Like I stated above when we were done we felt so much better because we knew that we made many people happy. We also felt good because it is so fun to brighten other peoples day. My take away from making the mayday baskets is that just a little something can change the mood of a person. I also took away that when doing a random act of kindness it feels so good after you have done …show more content…
For example in Top 20 Teens it talks about being above the line, and also about being below the line. This topic relates very well with community service because if you are a person who is above the line, then we will have a good attitude, and also well have a much better time doing the work. While if bottom 80 teens were doing community service they would have a terrible attitude and would make doing the work not fun at all. I also think that levels of listening also goes along with community service. I think that they go hand in hand because I feel like when you are volunteering you should be in the zone. When you are in the zone you aren’t worrying about anything else other than the work that you are doing, and I think that it makes it a 10 times better experience. Another topic that I think goes along with community service is goals:bettering your best. I think that they go together because I think that before you go out and volunteer you should stop and think about what you would like to get out of it. By doing this you can set smart goals which will help you know what you want to get out of it. I also think that the topic what’s in it for me also goes along with community service. I think this because like I stated above you should stop and think about what is in it for you. I think this because maybe you see volunteering as pointless, but then when you think about what

The components of citizenship, community service, academics, work and home life, and extracurricular actives help me shine as a well-rounded individual. As an involved and caring citizen in the Union Township community, I do my best to make my mark. Displaying a good role as a citizen through community service has been a value I possessed ever since I could remember. At a young age, I started to serve my community with my parents at both school and church events and it has stuck with me since. Through community service such as being an assistant teacher in St. Veronica’s Religious Education Program, Glen Este High School’s member of National Honors Society, and Key Club, I not only helped out Union Township but I have also made new relationships and feel good about myself. Community service always makes me feel better because I know I’m helping others and making my mark through the friends I have made through both of these service programs.…

Ms. Placencia stated, “There are diverse people in the different classes of the world, along with those stuck in poverty, and when we serve, we understand that we are all the same... some of us are just more beneficial than others.” Community Service forces you to understand the stories of others and break down the borders to be able to work together and build volunteer…

Overall, community service is paying back to people and animals that are in need. That is why it is necessary for the people that are able to participate do. Not only should people do it because they have to, they should want to. I have learned this personally through my community service experiences. By participating in community service it has allowed me to change as a person and look at life differently. In the beginning I was not enthusiastic about volunteering, but afterwards it made me feel good about myself. There are many benefits of volunteering like, doing helpful things of your interest, interacting with family and friends, and receiving more knowledge about things you didn’t know. There are many aspects of community service that are not blatantly shown.…

Whether it be helping with school decorations, planting trees in the garden, or cleaning up garbage, doing service allows me to both aid my community and to know exactly how I am aiding it. It is for this reason that I enjoy community service. Often, I will sign up to help with small, individual community events. For example, a few weeks ago, I allocated six hours to help set up and operate various activities at the River Hill Community Health Fair. I am also a member of the American Red Cross, and frequently help blood donors at the Columbia Red Cross Blood Donor Center. Whether it be helping the community learn more about health, or helping facilitate blood donations to the needy, I know exactly how I help in community…

However, according to Sally Brown, volunteering brings these groups together and unites communities through bonding and “mutual understanding” (qtd. in Dykhuis 16). In fact, Pappas states that many youth volunteers get started in service work through church or school. Consequently, these closely knit programs encourage friendship and address areas of each community’s concern (Dykhuis 16). This allows communities to come together through a similar cause whether that be “illiteracy, teen pregnancy, high crime rates, or drug abuse” (Spiegel and Safrit 14). Due to the different opportunities for community service, volunteers are able to understand the barriers between affluent and limited resource areas and use their knowledge of these barriers for further personal and communal…

But that changed once I started to know other people’s situations. Realizing what the people who I was helping went through helped me have a change of heart. It made me care about others and understand how they felt.…

Think back to when you were a kid and you waited anxiously for the whole school year to be over with so you could do that one special thing. For my friends and I it was going to the big, red bricked church down the road and getting free sack lunches. The older I got the roles had been switched, from receiving the lunches, to providing the lunches for the anxiously waiting kids. For this year’s history fair, our group decided to do our project on the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). We chose this topic because it’s something the four of us are very interested in. The KKK were against people specifically because of their race or religion. That was a big issue in the past, but it’s still a problem we see today. That is why we wanted to focus on the Ku Klux Klan for history fair this year. This Klan was founded on things like racism, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and hatred. For our history fair project, our group wanted to find out exactly who the KKK was and why they would do what they did.…
