Abstract McGraw-Hill Companies is a diversified corporation with two separate divisions, McGraw-Hill Financial and McGraw-Hill Education, and several brands within each. McGraw-Hill Companies’ operations are strong and it’s competition is manageable, as determined by an analysis of each industry with which McGraw-Hill is involved. Approaching the corporation from a macroeconomic standpoint, their global footprint requires compliance with various regulations but also provides an opportunity to service entirely different demographic while increasing profit. From a microeconomic perspective, the corporation is well diversified with it’s several brands, allowing them to better manage themselves internally with market instability and uncertainty.

Company Introduction The McGraw Publishing Company, founded in 1902, was what has now become McGraw-Hill Companies (“Corporate History,” 2011). In over 10 decades, the company has continuously expanded into new markets with a key focus on innovation and education. A mission that can be found on the company’s website, “global information and education company providing knowledge, insights and analysis in the financial, education and business information sectors through leading brands.” In current day, McGraw-Hill Companies is headquartered in New York City, New York. With more than 280 offices in 40 countries, McGraw-Hill Companies’ CEO, Harold McGraw III, employs approximately 23,000 individuals worldwide ("The mcgraw-hill companies," ). The corporation has many brands, including Standard & Poor’s Rating Services, S&P Indices, S&P Capital IQ, Platts energy information services, J.D. Power and Associates, and is often a familiar name to students due to the involvement of their last brand, McGraw-Hill

    Fiscal policy refers to use of government revenue collection and expenditure to influence its economy. Fiscal policy targets a country’s budget of its economic activities. Government can adjust its spending and taxation levels through changing the income distribution, resource allocation or level of aggregate demand and economic activity. In the context of Brazil, in 1970s, the government put some stringent penalties to regulate its imports. The government kept the import tax and penalties high. To implement the policies, the government applied tax deduction on imports, for instance, a Brazilian resident who imported intangibles like knowhow, software and royalties would be subject to withholding tax from remittances, this was equivalent to 25% of an individual registered capital. If a Brazilian taxpayer bought software from abroad, worth £100, the seller would be receiving £15 while the £85 would be remitted to the government. Brazilian tax rule treated any payment of intangible imports as a profit distribution regardless of their justification.     The following method is how Fortune determines the most admired list. First, Fortune magazine starts with 1,400 companies and then 1,000 largest U.S. companies are ranked by revenue and non U.S. companies in Fortune’s Global 500 database with revenue of $10 billion or more. Fortune then selects the 15 largest for each international industry and the 10 largest for each U.S. industry, surveying a total of 692 companies from 30 countries. To create the 57 industry lists, Fortune partners with a survey group called Hay Group who asks executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. A company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed. To make it to the top 50 Most Admired Companies overall, Hay Group ask the 3,920 respondents to select the 10 companies they admired most from a list made up of companies that rank in the top 25 percent of last year’s survey in addition to those that finished in the top 20 percent on their industry. What’s more, those members of the organization that many assume to be the best at learning are, in fact, not very good at it. I am talking about the well-educated, high-powered, high-commitment professionals who occupy key leadership positions in the modern corporation. Most companies not only have tremendous dif culty addressing this learning dilemma; they aren’t even aware that it exists. The reason: they misunderstand what learning is and how to bring it about. As a result, they tend to make two mistakes in their efforts to become a learning organization. First, most people de ne learning too narrowly as mere ‘‘problem solving,’’ so they focus on identifying and correcting errors in the external environment. Solving problems is important. But if learning is to persist, managers and employees must also look inward. They need to re ect critically on their own behavior, identify the ways they often inadvertently contribute to the organization’s problems, and then change how they act. In particular, they must learn how the very way they go about de ning and solving problems can be a source of problems in its own right. I have coined the terms ‘‘single loop’’ and ‘‘double loop’’ learning to capture this crucial distinction.
