Beach or Mountain Vacationing

People take vacations all the time. There are many choices to choose from. I think that two of the most common places are either the beach or the mountains. Both places offer a ton of activities. The activities in the mountains cannot offer the same activities as the beach as well as the beach not offer the same as the mountain. There are many differences between beach vacations and mountain vacations. Let’s go to the beach first! There are advantages to the beach according to climate, activities and location. Warm climate is one of the most important advantages a beach vacation can offer. Sun and sand are two qualities that best describe the beach. The temperature is most always hot, and depending on the climate there is a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed. People can swim in the ocean, surf, lay in the sun, Bar-B-Q, bring a picnic, build a bonfire, ride bikes, or go looking for sea shells. Another form of activities for beaches that may have a pier, would be fishing, bringing your boat for some ocean boat adventures, scuba diving or snorkeling. Other beaches offer amenities such as resorts to stay in, camping, indoor and outdoor showers, a mini store and restaurant for dining. Then there is the club scene for those that may enjoy drinks and dancing. As well, many places offer great sunsets and awesome coastal views. Now let’s head to the mountains! If you dislike cold weather, you may not opt for mountain vacationing. Because of the altitude of many mountains the climate can be cooler. If vacationing in the mountains is for you and you enjoy the colder climates then there are many activities for you to enjoy as well. Some of those activities are snowboarding, skiing, sledding, and building snowmen. On a warmer climate mountain you may enjoy hiking, biking, campfires, and watching

The most interesting short stories that caught my undivided attention were: “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and “Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot” by Robert Olen Butler. These stories were both fascinating and intriguing in the sense that they made me feel like if I was the actual character. You could feel the pain and anguish the characters felt, even the desperation. It got to a point that I felt pity for the protagonist whom in both stories where narrating. Here we can see how someone can feel so desperate that they think the only way out is by taking their lives. Both Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Robert Olen Butler created an incredible form of fiction that makes you question if the scenes in the stories can truly happen in reality.…

The baker in “A Small Good Thing” by Raymond Carver caught my attention from the beginning of the story. He was abrupt with Ann, but it felt like there were reasons that would be explained soon why he was this way. The initial impression I got from him wasn’t likeable but as I got further into the story, there was a spark of compassion in this man that I could relate to. The bakers harassing tendencies and social isolation as a person are not traits I exhibit, where as his strong sense of compassion and emotion is where I can relate more to.…

Though they share some of the same situations; each has a different way of portraying it. This gives the readers two different aspects of being bilingual. Rodriguez told his story in Aria: a Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood. Tan told hers in Mother Tongue. In spite of the fact that they both wrote about their experiences of being bilingual, they told their stories were for very different reasons.…

Everyday, stereotype is used in the society. Sometimes, when people use stereotype on other people, they don’t even recognize it because it’s so common and is ignored by the society. It’s a way to judge people through their common believes based on ethnicity, gender, skin color, appearance and language of the people who are being judged. For example, when people see a Vietnamese woman in her 20’s, 30’s and 40’s just migrated to America, they would assume that she will be working in a nail salon and flirt with some rich guys to get married with. Being stereotype is difficult deal with, and it’s really offended and hurtful. “The Myth of the Latin woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria” by Judith Ortiz Cofer and “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan share some common and different stereotypes that they had to go through. In the story “The Myth of the Latin Woman: I just met a Girl Named Maria”, Judith Cofer wrote about her experiences being stereotyped as a Latin woman. In “Mother Tongue,” Amy shared her personal experiences being stereotyped with her language’s barrier. Even though the two female authors shared the similarity for being stereotyped by the society, they faced different situations on the way they were stereotyped.…
