The settlements of Virginia and Massachusetts were both established during relatively the same time, but the ways that they were established differed tremendously. Virginia had difficulty establishing itself; there were many errors and failures, especially in the beginning. Massachusetts, on the other hand, was extremely successful. The settlers made smart decisions in provisions and planning that resulted in a prosperous colony. Virginia and Massachusetts also differed in their leadership quality. Virginia, initially, had weak leadership until John Smith who established a much more rigid government system within the colony. Massachusetts enjoyed successful leadership from the beginning with Joseph Winthrop. Joseph Winthrop was able to successfully develop the settlement, and a respected, well thought out society. Virginia and Massachusetts also differed in their work ethic. Virginia produced slothful workers and relied heavily on labor from the Natives. The Puritans of Massachusetts held onto a rigid lifestyle and were very hard-working. The differences in the settlement’s upbringing were not the only thing that divided the two colonies; the differing views on religion helped to shape the economy of both…

Although summer and winter both occur when the Earth is titled toward the sun, there are very different seasons. The first and most obvious difference between summer and winter is the weather. During the summertime the days are warm and sunny. Temperatures range from 70° and above with a slight breeze, making it enjoyable to be outside. Toward the end of summer people tend to worry about hurricanes and tornadoes. On the other hand, winter days are cold and dark. There is a constant freezing chill making temperatures drop below zero. Normally there are worries about serious snow storms and blizzards. Another noticeable difference between summer and winter consist of the types of activities people participate in during the two seasons. Summer activities tend to involve being outdoors. For example people enjoy trips to the beach, family cookouts, swimming and even long walks. The sounds of kids riding their bikes and fireworks crackling can be heard throughout the days. However, in the winter people occasionally enjoy outdoors activities like sledding, ice skating and snowboarding. Generally during the winter though, people spend most of their time participating in indoor activities like watching movies, readings books, and baking sweets. For the reason that climates are drastically different during the summer and winter, these is also a huge difference in the way a person is dressed. During the summer people dress lightly, wearing simple t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, and bathing suits. Hats are typically worn to keep the sun out of people's faces. Since the temperatures are high there is no need for any extra clothing or layering. Unlike while in the winter time multiple layers are worn to keep warm. People dress in heavy sweaters, long pants, thick coats, and boots. Hats are also worn during the winter, but not to block the sun but instead to keep the heat in. Last but…

Analyzing literature can be achieved in many different ways and it should help the read gather a better understanding of the piece. The pieces of literature that I want to examine further are “The Swimmer” and “Prisoner on Hell Planet”. Both of these short stories contain similar and not so similar elements of literature. After reading these stories I gathered that it would be best to compare and contrast the following elements of literature; writing style, mood, and symbolism. Analyzing these aspects of literature should help me gain a better understanding of both short stories and hopeful other stories that I read in the future. To begin my examination of each story, I thought it would be best to look at each of the authors and their writing style in greater depth first.…

In today’s world of TV shows and entertainment, talk shows have been shown to be one of the most watched and the most hyped type of television programming throughout the world. No matter whose household it is, it’ll be likely that they are watching talk shows, such as Oprah Winfrey’s show or even Jerry Springer’s show. Basically we all know the norm for talk shows, and how they usually show negative scenarios or talk about relationship and family problems. For instance, you would normally see a couple arguing and fighting over the paternity of a baby on the Jerry Springer show or if you’re watching the Montel Williams show you will see him talking about different subjects such as diets, wealth, and life secrets and a lot of other stuff along those lines. The best shows that I personally think contrast the most are the Maury Povich and Dr. Phil talk shows.…
