Compare And Contrast A Professional Report
TASK 4 part 6
Compare and contrast your report with a similar report from a professional journal?
SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES
Both reports are related to the efficiency of fuel. My report had a less detailed conclusion than the other report did.
Both use calculations in order to work out the efficiency of the fuels. My report only included information about two types of fuel, however the other report compared many.
Both reports include a diagram of the experiment. The other report uses different equipment in the experiment to calculate fuel efficiency.

Both my own report and the example professional report (journal) have similar and differing factors that link them together and set them apart. For example both reports are related to the efficiency

for two types of fuels (methanol and ethanol) unlike the professional report which showed results for many types of fuels including biogas, LPG, kerosene and wood. This might mean that the reports would not be able to be compared as easily making them less useful. The professional report would be more useful for general fuel efficiency as it is more detailed whereas mine would be more useful if only information about the efficiency of methanol and ethanol was needed.
Both of the reports included a diagram of the experiment showing the equipment used, and labelled and how it was set out for the experiment. This shows that a diagram is quite important for a scientific report and will be useful for showing other scientific peers how the experiment is done, so that they can understand it better and also in case they would like to try out the experiment themselves.
My report differed from the professional one as it had a less detailed conclusion. This is probably a weakness in my report as a more detailed conclusion can be helpful in summing up more in depth, specific details in the whole report including the experiment, the research and the results making it easier to understand for the audience and the key specific points more easily

Mead & Hampson (1996) developed a study involving the divided visual field paradigm and a phonological rhyme/non-rhyme task to test the speed and accurateness of either side of the brain. This study was used to investigate functional asymmetry between the left and right hemispheres in phonological processing. The research was taken out equally on 15 male and 15 females London Metropolitan University students ranging from ages 18 – 35 years old. They were all specifically chosen to be right–handed and had English as their first language thus providing a fair experiment to see whether our left hemisphere (left side of the brain) or the right hemisphere is faster and more accurate. In conclusion using the mean and standard deviation to determine our hypothesis, it was calculated that the left hemisphere had a higher mean and standard deviation score compared to the right hemisphere.…

I feel a bit of relief after completing this report. This report came easier for me than the one immediately prior. Finally pushing myself to get through all the details, which for me at times can be very overwhelming. Communicating was much more fluid for me during this experiment. The initial shock of my last report forced me to stick with things I may have been uncomfortable with longer. Either way during this experiment I read and read and read and felt much more as ease knowing what I had to do, measure and what the overall goal was we all were striving towards. I felt a sense of calmness when I had to write the report, a sense of familiarity that made it much less overwhelming than earlier. Preparation is a huge part of this reports success but I too feel that getting a few reports under my belt ( bad or good ) helps in the ability to sit and write introductions and talk about…
