outside in the heat everyday learning and perfecting the performance. Concert season, on the other hand, occurs during the second semester of school and is not performed at any sporting event or festival, only at competition. Concert season is the laxer of the two seasons, because we are in the inside playing music and sight-reading pieces not outside in the heat. Also For concert competition we do not perform on a field but instead in an auditorium at wherever competition is at that year. During marching season we start preparing for competition at the end of July.
We start by learning and remembering all of our show music. Then we move on to learning a couple of sets a week, and then by the end of September we have the whole show completed. Doing that allows us to use the remainder of the time left for perfecting the show before performing at competition in the first week of October. For concert season we start preparing for competition in January. We are required to choose three concert songs and perform them at coemption. The songs we choose must be played with nearly no musical mistakes, and to make the competition more tough we are also required to sight-read a piece almost perfectly, this all made preparing for concert competition tougher than preparing for marching competition During marching season, we are stressed a lot. We have to learn and memorize all the sets and four songs all in two months, so we feel as though we are always crunched for time. Whenever it rained we became even more stressed because that meant we could not go outside and practice old or learn new drill, which then put us behind schedule. In short, not having enough time is what ultimately made us
stressed. Concert season stressed us, but not in the way marching season did. We got stressed by the thought of having to perform three pieces in front of judges almost perfectly. The judges look at the musical score, or sheet music of every instrument, and would judge us on how exact we played it. If we did not articulate right or if we did not use dynamics right, our score was affected. While in marching season performance was main key not necessarily music; but, however, during concert season music was everything; which meant it had to be perfect so making sure everything was perfect musically was the main cause of our stress during concert season. To sum it all up, marching and concert season were both apart of the band program, but each had its differences. During each season, we were performing at different places, practicing differently, and being stressed differently. There were many more differences than the ones mentioned in this essay, but these were the main three differences overall.
