Compare and Contrast: Beowulf vs. Mr. Incredible While Beowulf and Disney’s The Incredibles’ main character, Mr. Incredible, live in different time periods, they both exhibit characteristics worthy of a hero. Mr. Incredible is a 21st century hero who uses his innate abilities to fight crime. In addition to protecting the community, Mr. Incredible balances his duties with being a strong father figure to his family. Further down the time line of history, Beowulf is an 8th century hero who, despite being single, possesses many qualities reminiscent of a modern day hero. Even though both characters display many similar qualities, their differences play a large role in forming their character. Physically, both Mr. Incredible and Beowulf are abnormally strong men. When an eight-legged, one-eyed mechanical monster is invading the city, Mr. Incredible uses his strength to destroy it. In addition, when a train full of people is about to fall of bridge, he uses his strength to stop it before it falls off. In his everyday life, Mr. Incredible uses his strength to make his life easier. For instance he lifts furniture with one hand, while vacuuming with the other. Similarly, when Grendel attacked the men in the Herot hall, Beowulf sprang into action and used his strength to rip the claw off Grendel. Another case is when Beowulf uses his abilities to kill Grendel’s mother by lifting a heavy sword that no other ordinary man is said to lift. In contrast, both men’s outer appearances are each unique. Mr. Incredible body frame resembles a slice of thick crust pizza. He has broad, thick shoulders, a tiny waster, and short thin legs. Whenever Mr. Incredible preforms his crime fighting deeds, he wears a red skintight body suit with a black eye mask. On the other hand, Beowulf wears mail-armor made of tightly woven chains on and off the battlefield. In addition, Beowulf carries a sword and shield
