Christianity and Islam both developed in the same geographic place. They developed in west Asia. They were both able to create traditions from these regions especially from the Jewish people. Christianity was the first to be developed. It was inspired by the life and death of a prophet named Jesus. According to Christian belief his death and resurrection became a mythic center of the religion. This was then symbolized as eternal life. Years later the Muslim religion was created by the prophet Muhammad. The people who follow this religion also see Jesus as a prophet, but Muhammad was the one they mainly worshiped as the prophet of god and known as Allah. Mecca was a flourishing trade city which was located halfway up the Red Sea coast. It lies between Egypt and the Indian Ocean. The People from Mecca used trade often. They usually would trade thing like Indian spices, Chinese silks and Yemeni incenses with both the Byzantine and Sassanid Persian Empires in the north. They were all involved with the politics. They were aware of the main belief systems, and they knew Zoroastrianism through trading contacts in Iraq, and Christianity through trading trips north to Syria and Egypt of across to Christian Ethiopia.
