Followers of Christianity are referred to as Christians. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the messiah as the prophet sent by God to save mankind and follow the covenants, as the holy bible is their guide of their faith. They also believe that their messiah, Jesus Christ, who came in the form of mankind; suffered, died and resurrected to exonerate them of their sins. It is also a belief that Jesus would return to reward those who have lived according to the doctrines taught by the holy bible. Meanwhile, Islam is an Arabic word that means submission, therefore the Islamic religion is believed to be an Abrahamic religion which believes in the submission to the almighty God, who’s referred to as Allah and Muhammad, who is the prophet. Furthermore, Christianity is strictly monotheistic religion, it is guided by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as shown and proven in the holy bible. It began in first century eastern Mediterranean as a Jewish sect as it then spreaded so fast that by the 4th century Christianity was already dominant in the Roman Empire. Most of Europe was Christianized by the Middle Ages except for the Middle East, North Africa and some regions in India. It spread to America in the early 1500’s, Australasia, and all over the world through colonization. Christianity evolved and is now one of the words largest religion and represents about a quarter of the entire population, as well as also considered as a state religion in several countries. It is categorized into three major groups: Catholics, Protestants and orthodox. Here’s a brief description of each. Orthodox also known as Eastern Orthodox originated from the Byzantium in a Greek form, it is hierarchical, meaning no Pope, consists of married clergy, sacramental, no status and views Mary as theotokos (mother of God).
