To put that era into perspective, the United States just finished World War II and became the world’s strongest military power. Its economy was at an all-time high which brought vast amounts of prosperity for many Americans. It was a time period called “Keeping up with the Johnsons” were one family would try to keep up materially with other families on the street. If ones neighbor bought a new refrigerator or a new car you would then want to buy the same item. And the 1950s offered that opportunity to so Americans (History.com). The booming prosperity of the 1950s helped to create a widespread sense of stability, contentment and consensus in the United States. One can see people flocking to the suburbs buying houses that are exactly the same. New towns emerged filled with white families.
