The rationalist first jab is that there are significant ways in which our concepts and knowledge are gained independently in terms of sense experience. Empiricists claim that sense experience is the ultimate source of all our concepts and knowledge (empiricist’s vs rationalists). The two are very distinct interesting schools of thought among others, and there is quite a significant difference when it comes to concepts and ideas. Let’s start off with the rationalists and elaborate a little more on their epistemology. Plato, Descartes, Democritus and other Greek philosophers wrote and talked extensively about how to understand the world. Plato with his reality to be a reflection of a greater truth. Big name drop here also one of my favorites the fabled “Democritus”! With his skeptical view of many issues and against the reliability of human senses. To be characterized a rationalist is to ratify in some measure, one of three claims. The Intuition/Deduction thesis concerns how we become warranted in believing propositions in a particular subject area. Intuition is a rational insight of seeing something to be true as a warranted true belief in it. Deduction is a method in which we determine conclusions from determined premises …show more content…
