For example, one similarity is both stories play on fear of the unknown. In “The Tell-Tale Heart” the quote “when it fell upon me my blood ran cold” play on the fear of the unknown by not telling the reader what fell upon him, also in “The Monkey’s Paw” the quote “well it’s just a bit of what you might call magic” plays on the fear of the unknown by say it might be magic with no clear indication.
