Farley Mowat, was born in Ontario in 1921 and he received a B.A from University of Toronto. Observing Wolves was written by Farley Mowat. Observing Wolves was published in 1965. Never cry Wolf from which “Observing Wolves” was taken, describing how the Canadian government sent Mowat to Keewatin Barren Lands in Northwest Territories to prove that the wolves were decimating the herds and this should be exterminated. First of all, Mowat has planned his tasks and journey before it ends.…
2. Traits: The shared species of traits are the instincts to hunt for food (scavenge), and the trait to hunt in packs and stay together. However, the Red Wolf is different compared to the other species that I have chosen, because the Red Wolf has a larger body type compared to the other species that I have chosen.…
The first major comparison would be their personalities; each is very loyal, loving, social, intelligent, alert, and playful. Both of my puppies are the sweetest caring and energetic breeds I have ever endured. The Second biggest similarity would be their body type which would be classified as small. Maltese and Toy poodles are smaller dogs average up to ten inches in height and weighs around ten pounds or less. I…
The timber wolf or gray wolf inhabits the forests of North America have many different fur color combinations. Some are pure white like the artic wolf, all black, tan, browns and combinations of them. Just like their coats vary in color so do their eye colors. Their eyes can be dark brown to a bright yellow and many different hue variations (pg. 8 Gray wolf Red Wolf). There are over 32 subspecies of just gray wolves. Wolves live all over and they have adapted or changed to fit to be able to live in their habitats (The Life Cycle of a Wolf pg. 7). German Shepard’s and Huskies look similar to the gray wolf. There are more differences than there are similarities (pg. 8 Gray wolf Red Wolf). One difference is the tails. A wolfs tail hangs low…
There are many types of dogs in the world and two of the most common dogs are Chihuahuas and German Shepherds. Each completely the opposite of each other like Chihuahuas barely shed, are low energy and do not eat much and vice versa with German Shepherds.…
All of the essays have one thing in common, they all deal with observing animals. And with their observation comes at times interaction. They might "mingle" with these animals. Or the observers would just sit there and do what they are supposed to, observe.

Our race, is naturally curious and interested in the unknown. In other words what we do not know or understand we try to understand. We try to understand our surroundings. In doing this, we would have gained knowledge.

In Mowat's essay, "Observing Wolves", Mowat attempts to make first contact by urinating his "territory". And he observes the wolves social structure. He know that the wolves are observing him as well in his essay. And he wonders if they would act the way they…
Elizabeth and William Darcy are a young, working couple living in their 1100 square foot condo. They work ten hour days, four days a week and in their down time, enjoy travelling the city via public transit. The couple are looking to get a dog, and Elizabeth wants to adopt her favourite breed, the German Shepherd. Due to the couple’s busy lifestyle, adopting this breed of dog may not be a suitable choice. The German Shepherd may not be an ideal pet for this couple due to its exercise and enrichment requirements and the challenge of travelling with this breed using public transit, but there are alternative breeds that would better adapt to their lifestyle.…
Studies suggest that the dogs known and loved today are descendants of the wolf (Zgurski). The wolf is an animal renowned for its ruthless predatory nature. It has an amazing ability to use aggressive tactics in protecting itself, obtaining vital resources, competing for pack status, and defending its territory (Price). Wolves are pack animals and organize themselves into ranks by age, strength, and ability, forming a pack hierarchy. The…
“Wolves are the dogs that stayed behind.” The world is a cruel place. A thing that can be treasured in one instance can be a threat in the next. For many people, we stare at the natural world and see its rugged beauty and wish that we could captivate it for ourselves. The case is no different for our modern dogs. Bred from the “empty canvas” of a wolf, we’ve modified, altered, formed, transformed, reformed, and remodified wolves to be one of the closest companions we have still today: dogs. But through all of our perfecting and reshaping that we’ve done to our best friends’ closest ancestors, wolves have prevailed, echoing their famous legacy still throughout the world. Wolves, now in danger of extinction, are one of the greatest controversies…
Large or giant breed dogs are very popular and can be both excellent guard dogs, working dogs and companions, unfortunately they are also at a higher risk for certain diseases such as Developmental Orthopedic Disease. Since these size breeds are at a high risk it is the owners responsibility to be informed about the disease and the how to prevent it. In order to prevent diseases like this prevention must start when the large or giant breed dog is a puppy.…
Dogs are one of the most loved household pets and for good reasons. Dogs require a little bit more maintenance than cats. Dogs like to please their owners while cats are more self-centered and only care about themselves. When it comes to which one is smarter it depends on the methods used to measure it.…
Raising a puppy versus raising an older dog. I was one of those people who thought that there wasn’t much difference. That is until I became a new puppy owner for the first time a week ago and all the responsibility of a new puppy fell onto me. Energy, eating and drinking, training, cost, and how they are when alone are all things I examined.…
Humans are descendents of other animals. I believe that over time animals change to fit the needs of their environments, and that is how after a long span of time humans came to be. Humans could be described as super-domesticated animals because they act like other domesticated animals. Humans are superior because they have more power and are more advanced than the other domesticated animals.…
Do you prefer a dog over a cat or a cat over a dog? I prefer a dog. Why do I prefer a dog you might ask? I prefer a dog due to the fact that they are very obedient than cats, dogs are better companions than cats, dogs promote an active lifestyle, dogs can be trained, and that dogs protect you from danger.…
It’s the dead of winter. The clouds have quilted the ground and trees in fresh, glistening powder. You press your snowshoe into a mound of soft snow and breathe a lung full of brisk air. In the distance you hear the quick crunching of the ground. Raising your head, you catch a glimpse of a grey tail with underlying white. You slowly swivel your head back and forth, looking for whatever you may have seen. Once again you hear the footsteps, very quietly fading away into the distance. Seeing past all the evergreens and birches you notice eyes peering, not at you, but into your soul. They are prideful prairie grass colored circles, surrounded by thick black lines with a small black dots in the middle. Around the bright eyes there is white and grey fur, swirling and coming together at the black lines surrounding the yellow. He sits, watching you, the black dots studying you, closely and yours doing the same: both curious. Neither of you are fearful, neither of you are shaken, both of you study each other like biologists.…
