Japanese Education vs. American Education
Japan and the United States are in an ongoing war; who has a better education system. The country of Japan has a stricter system than the United States, and it shows. The United States has shown multiple times that their education system is inferior to the Japanese system. The Japanese education system is more effective than the United States. The United States is losing the battle of education.
Japan has put more focus onto the training of their teachers. "Japan stands light-years ahead of [the United States] in international comparisons" (Staples). The States haven 't even began to approach two areas of concern that Japan has put much attention to: how the …show more content…
teachers are trained and how they reach what they teach. The Japanese education system is more focused on teacher-development, which gives the students a better education.
Japanese students want to get into the best schools, and have to work hard and do well in order to be successful.
"American students...take examinations to get out of school. Japanese take them to get in" (Fiske). From primary school, it is drilled into the brains of Japanese children that the most important thing in their lives is school. Most of their time is spent in school or studying for their rigorous coursework. Japanese children are put into the mindset from a young age about how important school is. This is one of the major differences between the United States and Japan 's school systems that makes it more effective.
Japanese students attend school more than American students. A Japanese school year "consists of 240 school days, which amounts to 720 additional days in the same 12 year schooling period" ("Difference Between American and Japanese Schools"). This results in the Japanese students learning more over a school year. Also, they retain more information over the summer break. The longer Japanese school year allows students to learn more in the same amount of schooling years as Americans.
The United States ' education system is inferior to the Japanese system. The Japanese system is stricter and more effective. The United States of America needs to improve their education in order to reach and surpass the
Japanese.
