Compare and Contrast Essay on ZEO Buildings in Asia
Differences between Z.E.B. Singapore and Z.E.O Building in China Due to the ever-growing need for new working space, as well as in an attempt to make living more comfortable, easy and eco-friendly, Z.E.O. (Zero Energy Office) buildings were constructed. Z.E.O. buildings are basically self-powered with the help of clean renewable energy. Therefore, pollution is drastically reduced and consumption of natural, non-renewable resources cease. That being said, even though the primary function of Z.E.B. Singapore and Z.E.O. building is the same, the two buildings do differ in green building feature, types of materials used and design concept. For one thing, the green building feature of the two buildings is different. Based on information found on (https://www.bca.gov.sg/zeb/poweredbysun.html), the Z.E.B. Singapore is fully powered by solar energy, whereas the Z.E.O building in China is semi-powered by solar energy. Aside from solar energy, the Z.E.O. building in China converts heat energy collected from a horitzontal water sourced heat pump as well as a vertical soil sourced heat pump into energy for lighting as well as for the heating and cooling of the building. Z.E.B. Singapore isn’t in a four-season part of the world, thus, it doesn’t require a cooling and heating system as efficient as the one of the Z.E.O. building in China. Besides that, the types of materials used in each building differs based on different angles of importance. As one knows, the pollution in China is far greater than that in Singapore caused by the most significant difference- China’s overwhelming population. Therefore, the Z.E.O. building in China demonstrates heavy usage of materials that emit a low V.O.C. (volatile organic compound), which is harmful in high quantities. From the concrete of the building, to the glass of the windows and to the flooring, the company stresses on it’s low V.O.C. As for Z.E.B. Singapore, living plants cover a part of the outer layer of the building. The

According to a “go green” blog named 2B Green World Website-LEED Consultants, “buildings represent over 50% of US wealth; $800 billion is the amount of renovation and new construction in the United States, buildings account for 1/6 of the worlds freshwater withdrawals, ¼ of its wood harvest and 2/5 of its material and energy flow” (Go Green Facts 1).These figures represent the disadvantages of a world without green building. Throughout this report the focus is on LEED certification and accreditation, and the impact LEED has on several different service firms. The report begins with background information about the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED, and LEED certification and rating systems. Following this, will be several different articles regarding the impact that LEED has on the building owner and the building industry as a whole. How LEED also impacts new construction projects, while at the same time targeting local and state governments and assisting them through grants. As well as, the real estate industry and the impact it has in the long-run through higher rents and lower operating costs.…

Materials – SIPs or Structural Insulated Panels are a good sustainable construction technique. SIPs are large panels that when all fitted together make a house. They are pre-fabricated off site to exact measurements so everything slots together perfectly. When they are brought onto site because they have been made to fit perfectly off site all the contractor needs to do is slot them into place like a large jig saw puzzle. With these panels being made to exact dimensions it means less materials are being wasted on site and it also means that less machinery etc. is needed onsite to construct the finished product so this reduces the overall pollution and wastage of materials.…

What is a conscientious objector? A conscientious objector is someone who stands up for what they believe to be right. Some obvious examples that come to mind would be Martin Luther King Jr., who led the Civil Rights movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s, or Amelia Earhart, who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. An example that most people may not recognize is someone like Galileo Galilei. Galileo was a conscientious objector because he fought for his belief that the Earth, and other planetary bodies, revolved around a single star, which was a very unpopular belief at the time because people believed that everything revolved around the Earth.…

A Net-Zero Energy Home (NZEH) is “capable of producing, at minimum, an annual output of renewable energy that is equal to the total amount of its annual consumed/purchased energy from energy utilities” and emits zero net carbon (1). This concept is becoming increasingly popular as people are becoming more aware of the effects of buildings on the environment. However, to build a net-zero home, in-depth design considerations to minimize “the energy requirements for space heating, cooling and water heating” are required (2). This will result in the least amount of artificial lighting, heating, and air conditioning to be used to achieve human comfort level (2).…

I used to believe that the world was a dark place. First, my mom and dad had a huge fight on a Sunday morning before volleyball. Let’s just say: the cops were called and I didn’t see my mom for about a week. In time, when my parents made up, things were good for a little while. Little did I know, I was becoming sick. On January 30, 2013, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Again, the world became dark and the world kept dealing me some pretty bad cards. Hypothyroid, Celiac’s disease, bullies, etc. I thought that my entire life would be this terrible. I started to give up. I didn’t try in school, I didn’t even want to play volleyball anymore. My life was taking a turn for the…

CBRE adopts the social marketing concept that focuses on social welfare by promoting energy efficient products and green housing. The philosophy behind the New-Era orientation is one that requires most attention – environmental issues. Also, the company also adopts a “triple bottom line” perspective; besides environmental value, energy efficient buildings also create economic value and social value for consumers and publics with energy efficiency products. With rising energy cost in the recent years, the impact of the company’s effort was clearly observable as CBRE won many awards from environmental non-profit organizations. Also, the company benefits as their social marketing concept won public and government support which are both essential in land development, where group consensus and ratification are required.…

With China’s rapid development, dust and air pollution are prevalent throughout most regions. However, it has become particularly bad in the metropolises of Shanghai and Beijing, where citizens stalk through smog-ridden streets almost daily, armed with only flimsy surgical masks, if anything. This picture has become a common sight in newspapers and online media across the globe, and stands as a warning to other nations of the consequences of rapid expansion and unmonitored air pollution.…
