Land:
The opposing side has stated that moving to America will provide much land to the people who go to America. This is not true because Native Americans inhabited most of the Americas. For example, according to The Dangers Settlers Had to Face in the Colonial Period by Melissa King, Jamestown was attacked in 1622, by Chief Opechancanough, in an effort to get rid of the settlers. About 400 settlers died in the attack. The English didn't leave, though. Instead, they fought back, and the fighting continued for 10 years. Also, settlers did not know how to live in the rugged wilderness and had no experience in preparing for the harsh, bitterly cold winters. They faced many hardships such as knowing little about how to hunt for game or how to plant crops in this new soil. As a result, many succumbed to malnutrition and diseases, according to www.allabouthistory.org …show more content…
“Colonial Life in America”.
No Government:
The opposing side has stated that with no present government in America you have more freedom than if you were in England.
This is not true because having no government you have no protection against theft, murder, or treason. This is not good either because you have no judicial court to prosecute someone of a crime. For example, the colonies had been practicing limited forms of self-government since the early 1600s. A self-governing colony is a colony with an elected government in which elected rulers are able to make most decisions without referring to the colonial power with nominal control of the colony. Self-governing colonies, for the most part, have no formal authority over constitutional matters such the monarchy and the constitutional relationship with Britain. In most cases, such control has
been exercised by an elite class from a settler community(Wikipedia.com). In other words, a self-governing colony is a hierarchy where people with no power have no say in what happens and only the elite are in control of what happens, much like what England was doing then.
Riches:
The opposing side has stated that America has plenty of opportunities for riches such as gold, tobacco, and other goods. But in the article “ Early Colonies Have Mixed Success” describes that when the colony Jamestown was first founded the colonists were only searching for gold. Not really knowing where the gold is they spent more time on finding gold than planting. Although the tobacco plant became popular and easy to grow and became popular in England as well, it took up so much space the poor and powerless people in the low hierarchy were put on the border of the Indians and colonists. These people were responsible for fighting off the Indians in order to stay alive.
As you can see and with all this evidence stated. The reasons against going to America is greater than going to America. With evidence, the land, food, and riches are not better than England and it is much safer to stay in England.
