Compare And Contrast Gordon Vs Tedjolfsson
Is our world still growing? In both Robert Gordon and Erick Brynjolfsson’s TED talk videos, they are voicing their opinions about if the world is continuously developing new ideas or not. Gordon believes that innovation is dead and everything is slowing down while Brynjolfsson’s stance is the opposite. In my opinion, Erick Brynjolfsson does a better job getting his point across because inventions are like building blocks. Our generation is steadily growing, and we are leading towards early retirement.
Gordon thinks that progress is slowing down because everything is basically invented. Few good ideas exist and things cannot get much better than they are now, Brynjolfsson opposes. He proposes inventions feed off of each other and one good invention

Many ideas and objects can be improved. That is just what the successes John Deere and Lewis Latimer did. In the articles “A Sticky Problem for Farmers” by Nathan Aaseng and “Lewis Latimer” by Stephen Currie, the main characters both have creative ideas, but they are different in their paths to success. “A Sticky Problem For Farmers” explains the difficulties of farming the Midwest, and how one man, named John Deere, helped by inventing a new plow. “Lewis Latimer” shows the willpower and creativity of a black man working in a white community. Both John Deere and Lewis Latimer had different, new ideas that would change the way certain people lived.…

Or so I thought. Michael Hanlon’s article, The Golden Quarter, changed my way of thinking. Hanlon does a great job in demonstrating that what we are seeing today is not technological innovation; instead it is the improvement of already existent technology. According to Hanlon, we are in the midst of a technological stagnation. Progress in technology has stalled, at least for the time being.…

If I were to take I guess, I would says that we all have been taught that capitalism drives innovation, technology, and scientific advancement. The teaching that competition, combined with the profit motive, pushes science to its limits and gives big corporations incentive to invent new medicines, drugs, and treatments is very common. We are also told that the free market is the greatest motivator for human advance, but in some cases that is not true. Patents, profits, and private ownership of the means of production are actually the greatest hindrances of science. Capitalism, in my opinion, is holding back science and technology.…

This is also a book about innovation. Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness, imagination, and sustained innovation. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology, so he built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. He and his colleagues at Apple were able to think differently: They developed not merely modest product advances based on focus groups, but whole new devices and services that consumers did not yet know they needed.…

Business has grown fat and lazy on the predictability of markets, dominated largely by communicating what exists to those who will listen. In recent years business has become more analytical, driven by databases and metrics. It has also become more intrusive of the customer, and less effective. Indeed in today's highly complex markets - where audiences have fragmented and competitive intensity has tripled, where consumers receive 1500 promotional stimuli every day and typically make decisions in 2.6 seconds - a more intelligent approach is required, to identify the best opportunities, to focus on what really matters. However today’s business also requires a more creative approach, to stand out from the crowd, to engage suspicious and promiscuous consumers, to sustain innovation which is not commoditised before it even reaches the market, and to exploit the emerging markets that will drive future cashflows.…

Human needs keep on changing constantly with time. Therefore, this calls for the need to keep on researching to find out new ways to satisfy these needs. This means that what we already have is not enough and therefore "if perfect research(s) did really exist then there would be no need for further improvement. For example, the first computer to be invented was the developed by J.H. Muller in 1786. If at all this contented people, then there would be no need for Charles Babbage to develop a more sophisticated computer ‘the difference engine’ that could use the decimal numbers system. This could later be developed to what we have today as the modern computer.…

It is true that in resent years many people are developing more and more interest in arts and literature. Then again, when technology is advanced and is viewed through a historical lens, changes can appear to be the result of natural and logical advancements that is usually called progress. There are many ways to understand the history of technology but the one way is that “one person must recognize the unquenchable tinkering of humankind to create new tools that solve problems and improve the quality of life”(Kelly, 2010).…
