Comics Vs. Myth The word hero comes from the Greek word hērōs. Not only that, but so much of ancient mythology from all over the world is evident in comic books.The role of myths are to validate the things around us. Myths reflect our world, they not only tell us about our societies ideals and morals. They tell us about the ideals and morals of ancient societies. Even though our current heroes are not the heroes of the distant past they still tell the same stories, but in a way that tells of our culture's values.
