In Russia not much was different, the leadership of the tzar made many Russians unhappy and they too wanted a change. The Nazi party was there to give change to the german people, while the Bolshevik party was advancing to give change to the Russian population. By 1922 Joseph Stalin had gotten himself placed as General Secretary for the party, allowing him to build alliances within the party by appointing those allies to government positions. Stalin did so well creating allies that by 1924 when Lenin died Stalin wielded enough power through the party that he was able to push for his control of the party. Back on the German side, Hitler returned from the war and joined the Nazi party. Adolf soon became renowned for his speeches against the Treaty of Versailles, rival politicians, and Jews. He later used this influence in the party to replace the current party chancellor with himself. Because of the depression, the german people were increasingly open to extremist ideas. In 1932 Hitler ran for president of Germany and lost, however the elected president made him chancellor of Germany. Hitler used his power to establish The Reichstag Fire Decree that suspended basic rights and allowed detention without trial.
