In the 1930’s prosecution and discrimination of minority groups took place worldwide.
There were specific laws put into place to restrict the rights of the black members of society in America as well as the Jewish members of the German society. Examining the harsh economic and political atmosphere during the Great Depression reveals striking similarities on Hitler’s treatment of the Jews and the laws and regulations enacted in the United States to restrict and control black Americans.
Hitler wanted to rise above everyone and all minor religions and races. This quote emphasizes Hitler’s determination to overpower Germany, ”Hitler was convinced that he could seize power in Germany”(”Adolf Hitler”). The excerpt above exposes that Hitler was very determined to grasp power in Germany.Hitler was a dark and disturbed man because of his rejection in life, like when he was denied admission into the Academy of Fine Arts.”Despite his attempts in later years to paint a picture of a poverty-stricken childhood, Adolf Hitler grew up in comfortable if not luxurious circumstances”(“Adolf Hitler”). Adolf Hitler grew up in a very upscale lifestyle, but he still ended …show more content…
up very disturbed mentally. He would have no reason to turn evil on the world and want to kill groups of people. Hitler abused his power and ruined many Jews lives by torturing them and trying to commit genocide. He killed around six million people.
During the Great Depression black Americans were abused and frowned upon in society.
Businesses were very particular about who they hire. “Many northern businesses refused to hire blacks; two-thirds of Manhattan’s hotels had no African American employees”(Horn). In the North in the 1930’s African Americans were treated poorly and unfairly given less working opportunities. Very few blacks were treated some-what decent in this period of time. “Early programs that provided food, shelter and clothing helped blacks significantly” (Horn). Programs like these helped supply blacks with the necessities they needed to survive in the harsh world. The people that would help the African Americans were upstanding citizens. There were helpful groups of people that aided the blacks during this horrid
time.
The German economy was destroyed in the World Wars. “German money became so worthless that people needed barrels of it just to buy bread”(“Nazi Germany”). The production of german money became so rapid that the value of the money decreased substantially. The money was being thrown around in the streets and you could pretty much find it anywhere in the cities. When Hitler came to power in 1933, he stopped all reparation payment. Six years later, WWII began with Germany’s invasion of Poland and, in the years that followed, much of the rest of Europe (“Nazi Germany”). Hitler played a role in Germany’s financial issues that followed both World Wars, by stopping the payments and driving the nation into more debt. When Adolf stopped the payments he was going backwards in the process of fixing the financial debacle. Hitler blowing off the financial problems is like how Americans struggled with money issues as well.
Adolf Hitler destroyed many lives, it is very similar to the way African Americans were treated in America in the 1930’s. Hitler grew up in a nice home environment and nothing awful happened to him during his childhood that we know of. He was rejected from art school and that started the downhill falling of his life and his mental stability. African Americans and European Jews were mistreated greatly and they were similar in that way, they were both outcasts in society and they price for being that way was very devastating.
