create good relations among the colonist and the Native Americans. A pact would even be made among the two different people that made the allies. Lastly Pocahontas would later send food to the colonist. Without this interaction among these two people, the colonist would most likely be dead. These two pieces of evidence both hint at the fact that both colonist got help from the Native Americans. Smith got help from Pocahontas and Bradford got help from Squanto. Smith was saved by Pocahontas, the daughter of the chief of the Powhatan. After saving Smith, she would then start to send food to the colonist and this would immensely help the colonist survive. Bradford got support from Squanto, a Native American who could speak English and would teach them to grow corn and survive off the land. These two Native Americans both interacted with the colonist and especially Smith and Bradford and this would lead to the survival of the colonist. Without these important interactions between the two different people, America could have never happened. And without the mutual agreements among these two people to support each other in a time of need, America could have never been created.
Similarly William Bradford and his colonist came into contact with Native Americans just like Smith and one Native American in particular helped the colonist prosper, his name was Squanto. Just as the colonist and Native Americans had finished their pact, Bradford writes, “…but Squanto continued with them and was their interpreter and was a special instrument sent of God for their good beyond their expectations” (Bradford 84). Squanto could speak English and help the colonist interact with other Native Americans. This could help them avoid any problem with other Native Americans. Squanto was considered a God send to these colonist because without him they probably would have died. Squanto also helped the colonist grow corn and other ways to survive off the land. Bradford and Squanto’s interaction lead to the survival of the colonist and good relations between the colonist and Native Americans. Both adventurers cooperation with the Native Americans saved the colonist lives and created good relations among the colonist and Native Americans, without Pocahontas or Squanto this would have never been
possible.
