wisdom through presenting a narrative of Daniel Kish. Daniel Kish is a blind individual whom learned echo location at a young age. Through this technique, Daniel discusses on how it allows him to see and visualize his surroundings. He believes that if we had higher expectations on what a blind person is capable of, then they would all be able to see. His belief is further solidified through the research of Laure and Bob as well as the experiences from Adam. Miller and Spiegel use scientific processes and thinking through narrating their hike with Daniel Kish. They use the scientific method through observations and research and finally making a conclusion. They all concluded that, blind citizens would be able to see if they themselves and us had higher expectations of what they can do.
Much like the podcast offered by Spiegel and Miller, scholarship in my major challenges common sense by introducing the importance and behaviors of microbes as well as the concept of evolution. Due to majoring in biology, I usually am between the fine line in whether science is the reason for our existence or is it God. Although, I am a dedicated Muslim, it is very simple to fall back on the belief of science and research. For instance, in my case, it’s common sense to believe that God is the creator of all however at times, the constant studying of biology can question my beliefs and assumptions. Another example is the handling of cultures/organisms and the experimental materials and tools. It may seem common sense that something as small as 10^3 org/mL culture cannot harm oneself however if not handled properly, one can ruin the experiment as well as harm oneself and others. Although many of these microbes are very small and are not visible by eye, they can still have a huge impact on our being.
