farming of cotton, tobacco, and rice. So all in all, the economy was better in the New England colonies only because they had more potential to trade with other places than the Southern colonies did. These different economies affected the social structures of these two regions quite a lot. Social structure in the Southern colonies was like a beefy five layer burrito. At the top of this burrito was the rich aristocrats living in the south, then came the plantation owners, after which were the middle-class farmers, followed by the indentured servants, and last came the black slaves in the bottom of the burrito.
Lifestyle in the New England colonies was generally based on equality, so besides the ministers and government officials at the top, this burrito’s lower ingredients were all mixed together in one mushy lower layer, unlike the divided ingredients (social classes) of the Southern colonies. Religious toleration was different in these regions too. The Southern colonies were a lot more tolerant and didn’t care what religion people believed in. The New England was settled by the puritan dissidents in the earl 1600s. These are the people who would become the roundheads in the english civil
war.
Puritans influenced the political, economic and social development of the New England colonies from 1630 through the 1660s. Their main purpose of coming to America was to acquire religious freedom. They were the foundation for what America is now and their influence towards political, social, and economic development of the New England colonies shaped what America is now.In the southern colonies, brothers Cecilius and Leonard Calvert established a refuge in Maryland in the 1630s for Roman Catholics persecuted in England. The Calvert family declared freedom of religion for all Christians in their colony. In the rest of the colonial south, the Anglican Church was established by law. In general, however, southern colonists provided minimal support for their churches, which were often without ministers.
In conclusion, in some ways these two colonies are the same and in some way they are not. In my opinion the New England colonies are basically the top out of all three which are Southern Colonies ,Middle Colonies, and New England.
