Similarities:
Clive Barker’s The Book of Blood and James Wan’s supernatural horror film Insidious are both based in a haunted house. A haunted house, commonly associated with the paranormal, is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits. (find authority) sets the stage, adds to credibility. Both houses are average. Very normal houses, not like haunted. Modern house in insidious. Old torn down book of blood. Relate to the suburban family. Book of blood, not normal, empty for a while, recognizable paranormal scenario. Supernatural activity inside homes is said to be mainly associated with violent or tragic events in the building's past such as murder, accidental death, or suicide. In Insidious, doors mysteriously open, alarms go off for no apparent reason, the child's baby monitor emits profane and corrupt sounds, and everything that can go wrong in the night does. This is similar to The Book of Blood, as the house the story is set at, Number 65, Tollington Place, is haunted where “no one could possess it for long without insanity setting in.”
The use of mediums to communicate with the departed is prevalent in both. Elise Reiner is the medium in Insidious who deals with paranormal activities. On the other hand, a psychic researcher, Mary Florescu, has employed a quack medium named Simon McNeal to investigate the house on Number 65. This has varying effects as one experiences positive results, and the other experiences a negative outcome.
The effects of the departed and demons on subjects. The Book of Blood- Simon McNeal. Insidious- Dalton.
Difference:
Fraud at reading the paranormal. Simon McNeal being a faux medium whereas Elise being a credible medium.
