When you picture someone uncivilized you often link immaturity, lack of wealth, non polite, showing no concern for others, or the proper way to behave. They have the mind frame of a child and display it through their actions. A child is excused because they don’t know any better, but an adult who does and chooses not to is a different story. When we first meet Rainsford he is having a nice time with his friends on a yacht. We can infer that he came from a port filled with people and is returning back to those people. Even if you asked a child about killing a human they see it as a bad thing. Why? Because, they have been taught that it is wrong, and unsound. Zaroff disregards this and treats the humans he murders as a simple game like he were playing checkers. Zaroff is so uncivilized and twisted that he doesn’t even see as murder.
