Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Suicide Essay

“I’m sorry…” she wrote on a sticky note. The silence that surrounded her was interrupted by the loud sound of gunfire. That was the last of Claire Woods. Suicide is a very serious matter that has affected people of all backgrounds for a long period of time. In Webster's dictionary, the proper definition of suicide is: “The act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind.” When victims reaches a breaking point in their lives, they believe that there is no other option, that this difficult period in their lives isn’t going to end. So they tend to choose a very permanent solution that they believe will help solve the problem. That solution is suicide. In Romeo and Juliet, the couple had both reached that point. After Romeo had heard the news that his true love was dead he rushed out to be with her and died in her arms. Juliet then wakes up to see that her one and only was dead. She then proceeds to take her husband’s dagger and kills herself. They had felt that death was the only option they had left. However, they approached the situation in a very wrong way. They could have told their parents,
nothing terrible wouldn’t have happened because they were already married. They could have also run away together. When Robin Williams had decided to take away his life it impacted me in a certain way because he seemed so happy about his life. I kept thinking, how could someone that presented himself as a happy person can become so sad that they think suicide is the only option. His and many others cause of death show me how low a person can feel about themselves, and think that no one is there for them.
Why, is the only word that will swarm a person’s mind after reading the play of Romeo and Juliet.
No one will fully understand why they went through with the decision that they made, but the marital couple. When Romeo found out that Juliet was dead, there was an overwhelming feeling of depression that enclosed him, all he could think about was that he needed to be with her, he needed to be with his true love. That what was probably running through his mind when persuaded that apothecary to give him that vial of strong poison. Unknowingly Juliet was still alive and awoken and tried to kiss the poison off of Romeo’s lips but failed then she resulted in stabbing herself. Romeo and Juliet were a very young and naive couple who did not know how to approach a challenging situation
properly. I’m fortunate enough to not know any suicide victims personally, but I am informed of famous suicide victims. Such as Robin Williams, Chris Benoit and Lee Thompson Young. Noticeably they are not the only suicide victims, but they were more out of the blue. They caused a more of an effect to me personally. I grew up watching Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, and Jumanji. Robin was also a stand-up comedian, I basically grew up seeing him as such a happy character. Not a thought crossed my mind that he would be at a very low point in his life. Same goes with Chris Benoit who murdered his wife and son, then proceeded to kill himself. I used to watch WWE with my grandfather on Mondays and Fridays watching his figure. I was naive and never really thought about other people’s sadness. Lee Thompson Young struck me the most because I was very fond of him, I used to see him in the movie of Akeelah in the Bee and thought he was a very good actor. All three men’s death has caused a huge impact of how I view life, I shouldn’t take what I have for granted and just live life to the fullest I never really understood the term of suicide until the sixth grade in health class Mr.Givens had explained to us as a class about how some teens are bullied and get pushed into killing themselves. Then in seventh grade, I began to know more of the specifics and learn specifically about the victims. At that point, I thought the main reason of suicide was because of bullying. It wasn’t until the eighth grade that I began to realize that there were many reasons for one to be driven to suicide, and the person who helped me understand this was, in fact, a suicide victim by the name of Robin Williams. Robin helped me realize that a person could have a mental illness such as Lee Thompson Young and Robin himself. No matter how low a person feels about themselves they should never decide to commit suicide, at some point, it will get better.
