Compare And Contrast Senate And House Of Representatives
The state and districts of the United States are represented by two different houses of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House of Representatives is the lower house of the U.S. Congress with 435 elected officials. The House seats are distributed by the state’s population. The Senate is the upper house of the U.S. congress with two senators representing each state, giving all states equal representation. The Founding Fathers anticipated in having two houses to represent the United States but did not anticipate in having them so divided in powers. Each is a different size, rules and procedures, and constitutional responsibilities. Both of these chambers often find themselves disagreeing because they both have contrasting
policy biases and customs. The immigration policy has changed since the 1950s. During the 1950s aliens were able to come to the U.S. if they were fleeing persecution and they were able to admit 205,000 refugees. Laws in 1952 were more open towards naturalization especially towards skilled workers from the western hemisphere and had preferences towards relatives of U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens. Since 1952 the United States has become more strict on their immigration policy due to the large amounts of migration to the U.S. from parts of North America and across the Atlantic Ocean. During the Obama presidency he has wanted to help the incoming immigrants as a democrat, but republicans have done the opposite- enforcing the deportation of aliens and making it hard to become a resident or citizen of the U.S. President Obama feels strongly about helping fix the immigration system, he wanted to focus on deporting felons and not families. He would accomplish this by giving American citizens or legal resident children who have lived in the U.S. for more than five years relief from deportation if they register with the government and pay taxes. George Washington would say that these new and modern immigration policies are completely different from what he started with the Naturalization Act of 1790 instating for an individual to apply for citizenship if he or she was a free white person, being of good character, and has lived in the United States for two years. Then the individual’s citizenship could be extended to any children under the age of 21. Washington would be upset the policies have changed since his presidency but would agree they have changed for the better of the U.S.
