Compare And Contrast The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Rocks were being thrown, guns were being shot. Today we will be learning about how to get away with murder… Just kidding, we are comparing and contrasting the two short stories, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and “Monsters are due on Maple Street” by Rob Stirling.
In these stories a town turns on one person and at least someone from both stories ends up dead. In “the Lottery” Tessie has no choice to live or die while in “Monsters” someone ends up dead, do to the negligence of others. Both these scenarios are conflicts of person vs society. The story “Monsters” seems to be taking place more in modern times because they mentioned cars and electricity. Now you can probably guess what I am going to say next.
