Through the themes, the writers are able to convey his message appropriately since everything in the passage relates to the themes. Thus, if one understands the themes well, they will be able to understand the passage appropriately. From the first passage, we are able to see the theme of punishment been brought out well in that the girl who was having an affair with the narrator was punished for committing adultery. For this reason, the girl is punished by been stripped, naked, and tied with a rope on her neck. She has been tortured. In so doing we see that the girl is in pain and agony. From another perspective we as the readers can say that the man is also punished even though not directly but indirectly, this can be argued on the basis that he is left to only watch from a distance and do nothing about it even though the fact that he loves the girl. From the second passage we see that they are able to use the theme of brutality very well in that innocent women and children who are Jews are tortured and killed in the Gas chambers. Therefore, such behaviors should be condoned in the society and not supported at all by people. From the two passages, they can be said to be similar in that they portray the evil acts that took place in the past. From the characters in the two passages they are against the evil acts, but they are not able to do anything since they are tied in it. Therefore, their only option they are left is to watch from a distance only. As humans, we should try and live in the society in harmony, peace, and understanding. Such cruelty to our fellow human beings is not fair and it’s inhuman. It makes the human race look like savages or animals and yet we are the superior and smart species. Killing innocent people in the name of war is not considered the right thing to do it just shows how cowardice one is.
