Sensation Festival
History
Sensation is an electronic dance music (EDM) festival which began in 2000. The event originated in Amsterdam, (Amsterdam ArenA) by a company called ID&T, and was experienced by around 20,000 clubbers. The sequel festival was created in 2001, however this time, the number of attendees had reached 40,000. All visitors were asked to attend in white outfits as a tribute to Miles Stutterheim who helped found ID&T but sadly died in a car accident in 2000. Brother of Miles (Duncan Stutterheim, Sensation CEO), asked visitors to dress in white as people did so at Miles’ funeral. The image created was reported to be so staggering, that the dress code has stuck leading to the slogan of the event, "Be Part Of The Night - Dress in White".
Sensation commenced in Amsterdam in 2000, and since then over half a million people across the world have experienced one of the most spectacular dance and music phenomenons in the world. (Sensation, 2012).
The festival is host to some of the biggest house DJ’s in the world during each eight-hour stage shows which include acrobats, actors, state-of-the-art lightshows, lasers and fireworks. Performances often include dancer’s abseiling from the roof, flame shooting and carnival floats part the crowds. (See Appendix A, Figure 1.1).
Sensation is known to be the largest and most extravagant in the electronic dance music scene for more than one reason. Each year, ‘Sensational International’ tours countries such as Prague, Korea, Serbia, Norway, Germany and the UK. The first event of every year is held at the Amsterdam ArenA, where the festival originated. This festival is still known as ‘Sensation White’ and management are focused on ensuring they keep the event as close to the original as possible. The new theme of the ‘Sensation International’ tour is launched at the Amsterdam edition each year,
