Each society has its ideals and rules, and when one does not follow them, the rest will exclude or ostracize the one. When Aunt Harriet wished to save her baby from being sent to the Fringes, she asked her sister to help her. To her dismay, Emily rejected to help her and responded with, “I have never heard anything so outrageous. To come here suggesting that I should enter into an immoral, a criminal conspiracy.” (Wyndham, pg. 71). Like the people of Waknuk, the telepaths will only accept those that are like them. When Anne wished to marry Alan, the group only thought that norms would never understand them, that it would cause trouble to them, and that it would equate to a terrible life. Furthermore, only accepting those that can produce thought-shapes and disregarding all other human life. However, it is certain that the telepaths’ lives will be much more luxurious than the other society. The land
