'Tuesdays with Morrie': Book vs. Movie
Alex Olesko
Mrs. Spada
English period 4

Movie and Book Comparison Tuesdays With Morrie is both a book and a movie. They are alike and different in so many different ways. The movie is never going to have as much detail as the book did, but they did a good job making the movie as close as possible to the book. The book covered a lot more aspects of the story than the movie did, and the book focused on the bigger more important parts. There were a lot of main points that the book and movie were alike. In both Morrie dies the same way with the same people around him. At the beginning of this story Mitch is so consumed in his job that he doesn’t give any attention to anything else but his column. As the story progresses Morrie starts to lighten up on the job and work towards a relationship with Morrie. By having this relationship with Morrie helps his relationship back home with his girlfriend who is getting tired of Mitch not giving her the attention she deserves. Janine and Morrie both play huge parts in Mitch’s life in both the movie and the book. The movie used a lot of the same lines used in the book such as Morrie’s aphorisms. One last thing that the book and movie had in common was that each time Mitch went to visit Morrie he could tell Morrie was getting worse and worse. Even though the movie did a great job making the book come to life, the movie and book had a couple differences. The movie never brought up Mitch’s brother like they did in the book. Another thing is in the movie they didn’t talk about Mitch as child like they did in the book. In the movie they show Janine giving the proposal ring back to Mitch in the airport, but in the book they never mentioned that. Also in the book they never talked about Mitch’s breakup with Janine and how he went to her studio and tried to fix it. Mitch’s relationship with Janine was way more a part of the movie than the book. The book focused more on the relationship between Morrie and Mitch when the movie focused on both. Some movies that are made from a book are most of the time completely different, but this movie resembled the book perfectly. The movie covered the most important parts of the book, which made it a success.

There are many differences between the book and the movie. For example in the book hen susie's soul leaves the earth she touches ruth on the soccer field. But in the movie she touches her as she is walking home on the street. Another differences is also shown when lindsey is in Mr. Harveys house searching for evidence , because in the book she rips a…

The first noticeable major difference is how the story is told. In the novel, Jon Krakauer writes from his own point of view, providing his own input and opinions on McCandless, while the film is told in his sister’s point of view; she is scarcely mentioned in the novel, aside from the fact that Chris was very fond of her. The shift in narrators in a way limits the amount of information that can be delivered to the audience. Though the narration by Chris’s sister adds a more…

The second comparable scene is when the Socs and Greasers line up to fight each other. They are smack-talking back and forth with each other. Two similarities between the book and the movie could be the sound of the greasers and socs talking back and forth, and it both showed or described how the greasers and socs were lining up. Two differences between the book and the movie could be instead of Paul swinging at Darry, some random Soc swung at Ponyboy, and the empty lot looked different than what I had imagined when the book described it.The book was more effective during this scene because It gave more detail about how the lot looked like and it described the feeling better than the movie…

Another difference that I noticed is concerning Curley's wife. In the book there is a scene where Lennie, Candy and Crooks are gathered in Crooks' room. After a while, Curley's wife emerges and the atmosphere becomes unpleasant. Crooks finds the courage to stand up against her, and when he does, she verbally breaks him down. In the movie this scene never takes place, and by eliminating this incident Curley's wife's destructive nature stays unrevealed.…

In both the book and the movie, the plot is very similar but is also different. They both have lots of similarities and lots differences. In the book and movie, the plot is similar in the way that Leslie dies when use swings across the creek. It is different in the way that in the movie, Jess gets his hopes up to become the fastest kid in his class, than Leslie comes along and beats him. The plot also changes because the movie has less time to fit everything in that is in the book.…

I believe that the book and the movie version of Our America have more differences than similarities because there were a lot of things that were different. For example, in the book the story of how 5 year old Eric Morse got dropped out of the 14th floor window was different from the story in the movie. In the movie it…

The film renders a much more detailed view of a near-term future world than that present in the original book, like the film also omits certain story details for example, no punch cards. And on the other side the whole book is about 90 pages long, which is not considered a very professional length for a book. Whereas in the movie, the main characters are described and well detailed, for example its starts with John Anderton (Tom Cruise) head of an elite division of law enforcement known as "Precrime", using the visions of three clairvoyants called "Pre-Cogs," the Precrime unit is able to determine the exact date and time in the future that a murder will take place, as well as the names of the perpetrator and victim. While in the original story there's no such plot like that and it just talks about the precrime system and a bit about "pre-Cogs", and Anderton.…

Within the first minute of the movie, I realized there were going to be many considerable differences. Having watched other book to movie adaptations before, I was mindful that not everything can be included in an only two hour film, but I was not expecting so many things to be removed or altered. Honestly, the movie felt very focused on the court case, thus eliminating other equally important scenes. The book, on the other hand, made the court case a major event but not the main focus, choosing to also emphasize settings like First Purchase Church, the conversation Scout and Dill have with Mr. Raymond, and the characters of Aunt Alexandra and Mrs. Dubose. All of which were not included in the movie.…
