From 1914 through 1918 the world was at war. Described as “The Great One”, World War 1 affected everyone; man, and woman, combatant and non-combatant. This was a war defined by the advent of new technology. World War 1 saw the implementation of the Machine-gun in 1914, the armored tank in 1916, and, with the advent of the airplane in 1903, the first fixed wing airplane modified for combat occurred in 1911. The perspective of combat had also changed. What had once been a stand in rank and fire at the enemy across vast fields had become a war fought in the trenches. The lone presence of an isolated field doctor had become that of an entire medical corps stationed behind the lines in vast field hospitals waiting to tend to the wounded. The very nature and scale of war had changed drastically. As a result, where you were, whose side you were on, and the role you fulfilled, the same battle had very different ramifications and opposing perspectives. This essay will discuss the contrasting views between Private Ernst Junger, a German shock troop in Storm of Steel to that of Vera Brittain, a British nurse in Testament of Youth, through one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles of World War 1.…
It is said that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means that everyone defines beauty differently. The dictionary defines beauty as “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind.” There have another point about image of beauty which is wealthy. Most of the time people define beauty depending on their culture and usually uniqueness. For example, many white people want to their tan, and many Asian people want to whiten their skin. When comparing American and Chinese images of beauty using the physical characteristics, personality, and extrinsic factors, one sees more similarity than different.…
Stereotypes are conventional and oversimplified conceptions and opinion that can create tough misconception of certain people which most of the times turns out harsh and harmful. Brent Staples in “Just Walk On By” and Judith Ortiz Cofer in “THE MYTH OF A LATIN WOMAN. I Just Met A Girl Name Maria “ Both had experiences of being stereotyped even though they had different experiences in different situations and incidents it has the same concept. They were both stereotyped as d someone else. Staple dealt with his stereotype in a calm manner by changing his behavior to make people less nervous around him. Similarly cofer was stereotype as housemaid, waitress and a sexual object. Cofer did not fit her stereotype either a colloge educated individual she also handles her stereotype in a calm manner. Her goal however is to replace stereotype with a much more interesting set of realities. Both staples and cofer faced the challenge of dealing with stereotypes in their lives.…
In the stories, “The Lie,” by Kurt Vonnegut and “Barn Burning,” by William Faulkner, the main characters mature from childhood into adulthood. This maturity either develops from support of one’s family and upbringing or it grows internally from one’s conscience. We see from both stories that the main characters use this maturity to courageously speak up.…
Swimming is a fun and leisurely activity that can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors. Swimming pools are generally located indoors inside of homes, hotels, recreation centers or places where people would normally go to take a load off and relax. Beaches are strewn about outdoors along many coast lines throughout the world providing a haven for swimmers and other beach goers. To enjoy a swim indoors at the pool, or outdoors at the beach, can be a tough choice since both can provide a variety of experiences. This essay aims to contrast those experiences by talking about some of the temperatures in the environment at the swimming pool and at the beach; the activities that can be done there, the cleanliness that can generally be found in the areas and some of the safety measures that are typically in place at both locations.…
Having only beauty would be the only thing you have. Once that is gone a person has nothing else to offer someone. People would only use you because of your beauty and you might only have a job and other things in life based upon your looks. Not what you are capable of doing in life, just how you look. You would not be respected as much even though people still should.…
Sophia Lauren once said: « Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes, it is not something physical ». True beauty cannot be ephemeral, it is eternal and everlasting, and it doesn’t change its meaning according to circumstances, generations, cultures, and centuries. Beauty is anything that triggers joy and happiness. Beauty is divine; it is a breeze on an extremely hot day. Beauty is a strong friendship, a true and inspirational love. Beauty is the freedom of a hummingbird and is a healthy red apple clinging in the tree. In all those contexts, beauty takes a separate road from the physical and the concrete.…
Inner and Outer beauty is put together as a whole. It is about the qualities that may give pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear or think about. It is an excellence of its kind. Being beautiful can be a wonderful feeling, where it is pleasing or satisfying. There are many qualities of beauty. It can be from your health, by taking care of yourself. Health is not just about your physical appearance. It is about your social, mental, spiritual, environmental, and emotional state of being. It is about your over all wellness. Character is another quality of beauty. It is about who you are as a person. It is about having confidence without being arrogant. Respecting other is also very important. Always treat others as you want to be treated. That has always been the golden rule. As long as we follow this rule, we should not judge others before we get to know them. Being a beautiful person is your choice, not anyone else’s. Be confident in yourself, and you will feel better too! Inner and outer beauties also have their differences too, but they show you who you really are.…
Nowadays, people value physical beauty more than attitudes, character, and even education. For they have different perspectives regarding the importance of it. For some, they consider it as an edge among others. To some, it is an asset that lifts up their self-confidence and self-value. While for others, it is their means of living.…
Physical beauty is biological. For the most part you’re either born with it, or not. Technically a person can “enhance” their worldly beauty with makeup, surgery, dieting, etc., but for the most part it’s in their genetic makeup. Inner beauty, however, is something that can always be changed if there is a desire. By setting goals and striving to be a better person you can change who you are and how you interact with people. For example, if you’re a bitter, sour person and you decide to become a kinder, more pleasant person, you will become much more attractive to others.…
Beauty only exists in perception, but not too many people are aware of that and judge a lot of people through the way they look and personality. I believe physical beauty can only get you so far in life, while others are so caught up in their looks and the way society views them. Inner beauty in my perception is sublime and I wish more people would look more into their peers personalities then what they wear or if they’re in today’s trends. Everything is an art, everyone has some sort of beauty, and some sort of flaw, but flaws are interesting.…
attracted to a person who had a beautiful face, features and a good complexion. To be…
Most people think that beauty is only skin deep. Meaning that a person is only beautiful by their outside appearance such as weight, height, hair length, or face complexion. Most people do not think pay attention to the important characteristics that make and mode a person. They feel that beauty is based on appearance alone. I on the other hand think differently. Beauty is all about what is on a person's insides. Inside beauty consists of the person's love for themselves, their love for others, and finally their personality. These characteristics help shape a beautiful person.…
Although outer beauty is what the world sees first, inner beauty is far more important. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Simply put, Beauty is considered many different things to many different people. There are many ways to judge beauty in this world, probably more than there are people in the world. However, if we were to try and categorize “beauty” we would identify that there are two kinds of beauty:outer beauty and inner beauty.…
