Each state has its own constitution based on its distinctive history and needs. A state's constitution is similar to that of the national Constitution; nevertheless, the laws made in individual states cannot conflict with the national Constitution or national laws. Ive decided to research the New Jersey State government and compare it to the national government. The government of the State of New Jersey, like that of the United States, is divided into three branches. Those three branches are the legislative, the executive, and judicial.
The chief function of the Legislature is to enact laws. The Legislature consists of two Houses. Those 2 houses are a 40-member Senate and an 80-member General Assembly. The Senate and Assembly chambers are located in the State House in Trenton.
The Executive Branch carries out programs established by law. The chief of the executive branch is the governor. The governor's office is located in the State House in Trenton. The governor signs bills into law or vetoes them. He can also recommend laws and call the legislature into special session. The governor has the power to grant pardons and is the only person with the authority to call in the National Guard.
The Judiciary Branch punishes violators, settles controversies and disputes, and is the final authority on the meaning and constitutionality of laws. The Judicial Branch decides how state laws should be applied. The governor appoints judges to the Supreme and Superior courts with the Senate's approval.
I believe that NJ has a good democratic government. I can appreciate the way each branch of government keeps and eye on the other branch through checks and balances. I think its great that we have the power to elect people into office and that there are several types of offices where the people all work together.

The United States of America have a federal constitution, where the President of the United States, Congress, and the judiciary share powers, and the federal government shares sovereignty with the state governments. This is the stark opposite to the unitary system in the UK where sovereignty lies in parliament and some powers are given to local assemblies. There are many types of federalism; all have been a dominant influence in the American political system at some point due to the style of leadership brought in by each new presidential candidate. Throughout U.S. history, the division of power between the federal government and state governments has been the subject of continuous political interest. After suffering from the British government's tyrannical ideologies that led to the American Revolution (1775), many Americans were conditioned to distrust centralized governmental powers. As a result, when Congress drew up the Articles of Confederation in 1781, the new central government was assigned very few powers. The central government had little authority over taxation, court systems and commerce. The states were essentially politically independent governments, each free to regulate commerce in whatever ever way they wanted, make money, and have their state courts hold judgment over national laws mostly entrenched in the US constitution. In 1787 a Constitutional Convention was called to restructure the government and create a national economy. This convention was called as many Americans realized after the American Revolution, that such an unorganized governmental structure entirely based on state powers would hold back political and economic growth of America as a country. Debates were rife between federalists, those supporting a strong central government as proposed in a Virginia plan, and anti-federalists supporting continued strong state…

The Judicial Branch is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate; Congress makes the shape and structure of the federal judiciary. The Judicial Branch consists of the Supreme Court and the judges, and the Supreme Court interprets the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court deals with cases involving the Constitution , the federal laws, treaties and disputes between the states. It does the job its set up to do and the job only, on what powers are allowed by the Constitution. The Constitution is very clear about the position of the Supreme Court as stated in Article III. “The judicial power of the United States shall be vested in One Supreme Court and in such inferior courts that the congress may from time to time ordain and establish.: “The judicial power shall extend to all cases, in law and equity, arising under the Constitution, the laws of the United States and Treaties.”…

The Judicial Branch is the most important branch of the United States government, due to the significant role it plays in interpreting and determining if laws are constitutional. Even though the Judicial Branch is the smallest in size and has smallest budget of any branch in our nation’s government, it exercises enormous power and is equal to other branches of the government because it has the power of Judicial Review. Judicial Review is the review by the US Supreme Court of the constitutional validity of a legislative act.…

It is made up of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court, the Circuit Court and the District Court. They see whether a law complies with the constitution and whether or not it is equitable. A unique case may have an influence which causes a change or alteration to a certain law. The judiciary branch may also have the power to stop Legislative and executive operations through a single judge. This gives me reason to believe that Alex Hamilton’s statement that the Judiciary branch is the weakest branch of government is false, the reason being because if one single judge has the power to hinder the legislative and executive activity it shows that it is not the weakest. Although this does not prove that it is any more powerful that the legislative and executive…

I believe that, when considering the fact that they as individual branches have the fully granted power to not only make the laws but; they are also the ones seeing that these laws be enforced through proper channels and chain of command. This leaves the judiciary with limited actions. However if actions were to be taken against specific laws then the Supreme Court have the final say. Although all have a say in the power of the law, the judiciaries take care of all the formalities. Example; if there’s an issue or concern in regards to specific laws made or being enforced the judiciary branch sees to it that it is properly resolved. They settle disputes involving legal contacts and see to it that they are enforced. No one branch makes a decision without the other checking to see if the outcome can be considered balanced “checks and balances”. (Talmadge). However they are restrained by state and federal mandates.…

The judicial branch, or the court system, composes of the Supreme court and all inferior courts established by Congress, they hold judicial power. There are no qualifications to become a judge of the court, this is done so to prevent any sort of political influence, this is further strengthened by making the term of judges for life in order to remove electoral influences. The Supreme court has the power to deem laws passed by Congress unconstitutional, this in turn limits the power of Congress. Judges have general jurisdiction in all cases involving states, citizens, laws, treaties, and the Constitution. This extends further to original jurisdiction, the involvement in all cases involving ambassadors, public ministers, and consuls. If any of the cases in court contains an error the subject can then demand appellate jurisdiction, where the court looks for errors in the case brought up. Any crime committed must be tried in the area the crime originated from unless it is declared as an unfair trial, then the case will be transferred to some other near place. In the judicial branch the Constitution defines treason, it is an act of war against America by giving aid or comfort to the enemy, there must be at least two witnesses to declare treason and its punishment can not fall to the children of the traitor. Treason is defined specifically in the Constitution in…
